All-City Centralites The 1953-54 sports year found many outstanding individual per- formers on the Pirate athletic fields. Topping the list was Don Harris, - a 6' l65 lb. speedster who ex- celled in football, basketball and track. Don was an All-City man in football, city high iump champion in track and a member of the varsity cage squad for three years. His finest efforts, however, were put forth on the gridiron, and as a result of his fine play he was named to the INS All Ohio third team as end. Don's biggest thrill came in the Steubeneville game when he intercepted four Big Red passes and was a constant pest to the Steubenville air attack. Another big star was Joe Mor- lan, one of the best athletes to come out of Central in recent years. Joe was a member of All- City teams in both baseball and football. As a gridder he display- ed keen leadership and served as the Pirate quarterback and field general. In baseball he was the Bucs' regular catcher for three years. Joe, who is 5' 10 tall and weighs a sturdy 200 pounds is only a iunior and has another big year of football remaining which should prove to be his best. Other AIl'City men coming out of our riverside school were Ralph Holderman, Sam Webb, Dan Bargdill, Ilm Carmon in football, John and Newt Foster, and Bill Smith in track, Chuck McCampbeIl . in basketball and Jerry Martin in baseball.
