Mannered Masculinity I- .c 1 Nl' as , The male side of the Y-Teens is the Hi-Y. This club strives to extend clean speech, sportsmanship and all around clean living in the home, school, and com- munity. Their activities vary from attending church to playing various sports. Hi-Y is a national boys organization, and is a direct part of the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Doerr is the advisor. To encourage and promote the welfare of the athletic associations is the purpose ofthe Red Letter club, or, as it is better known around Central, the Var- sity C. A boy has to earn his varsity letter in some sport before becoming a mem- ber. Varsity C came into existence in i952 with Frank Howe, track coach, and Chuck Koterba, basketball coach, as the faculty advisors. The D.E. program is an outgrowth of the Smith-Hughes Act and was originally begun in 1935, for the purpose of training students the art of distributing retail goods. At present, there are thiry-five members in Cenral's D.E. Club with Mr. Porter the advisor. These pupils attend class one half a day and then depart for their respective iobs. The crew holds meetings the first Tuesday of the month and at these meetings discuss matters pertaining to the Audio lEarl and Visual lEyel senses. Mr. Doerr is the faculty advisor.
