ATHLETICS Football-Central Falls was represented in the newly formed Eastern Di- vision of Class B by an aggressive, Veteran team. Despite the lack of material, Coach Landry, in his second year at the helm, moulded an eleven whose strong bid for the championship fell short by the smallest of margins, and whose play throughout the campaign left little to be desired. Among the brighest stars of the squad were several seniors: Boardman, Steere, Dzierzyc, Sherry, Kenny and Moore. Although outplaying our opponents, a last minute Classical drive turned apparent victory into defeat by a single point in our first game. Such an unfort- unate beginning failed to dim the team's spirit and it bounced back to win five out of the remaining seven games. The most notable of these 'victories were those registered over St. Raphael and Westerly. The St. Raphael victory was especially significant as it broke a string of five years without a triumph over our arch-rival. Basketball-For the first time in several years Central Falls had an inexperi- enced squad due to the graduation of former luminaries. What we may have lacked in experience, however, was made up in speed and determination. The team played as a unit all the way through and although hampered by a poor start. a strong finish carried it to the top of its respective division. Kaplan and Steere finished up their high school careers by making their last season their best. The playoffs for the divisional crown, which followed immediately on the heels of the gruelling schedule, found our athletes too tired to put up their usual fight, al- though what fight they did present was worthy of a better fate. Most brilliant of the victories were those over Woonsocket, Aldrich, St. Raphael and Westerly. Baseball- With the loss of six regulars from last year's squad we entertain no pennant hopes, although the boys are very enthusiastic and shouldn't be too bad, said Coach Landry prior to the beginning of the '41 schedule. Coach Landry was faced with the difficult task of building up a new infield and pitching staff. In view of the fact that C. F. fielded a team with only three holdovers, the chances of a successful campaign rested on newer faces. But whether our team won or lost Central Falls always put up a strong fight. oiegwfiit T l50l

p tl.eft to Rlglllll-L42ll'll1L'll Victoria, Doris 'McGinty, Harriet Egan, Viola Cartwright. CHEER LEADERS UP-TO-DATE Girl cheer leaders for Central Falls High School made their initial appear- ance in l94l. Their career began as the result of a school notice asking all girls interested in becoming cheer leaders to attend a meeting. Approximately forty girls presented themselves. Finally four girls were selected, all members of the class of 1942. Thanks must here be extended to the Pawtucket High cheer leaders who drilled the team in the art of cheer leading. Viola Cartwright was appointed chief cheer leader and the other three became her willing assistants. The plan, now, is to add four more to this number, making a group of eight for the l942 athletic season, It was indeed a memorable occasion when these girls made their Hrst ap- pearance in a Central Falls High assembly and led a cheering rally preceding the St. Raphael basketball game: and Ha never-to-be-forgotten night was that on which the Central ,Falls girls made their debut at this game. Factors of great importance for their success as cheer leaders, are their strik- ing uniforms. These consist of red jerkins with White felt letters, blue skirts, and white blouses. It is hoped that this precedent established in 1941 will become an honored tradition for Central Falls High School in the future. l5ll
