Looking forward to a good season with such returning stalwarts as Frankie Toro, Herbie Pennoyer, Frank Kess, the McCain boys, Dave and Russ, Sal Perruccio, Ray Rondini, Tony Masciotra, John Klarman, Vinny Perrone, Wes Gill, and other lettermen, the Blue Devils were never able to get back into championship form after being tied by a fine Bridgeport University team. The next two games took the boys to New Jersey. Trenton Teachers College capitalized on sloppy ball handling by our boys to register a 19-7 victory. Things were different at Montclair which had steadily been able to best the Blue Devils. Showing pre-season form, our team was able to over- come the teachers from Montclair, New jersey, with ease. A.I.C. showed T.C.C. the advantage of having depth at all positions and overpowered our team. Frankie Toro played outstanding ball as did all our footballers but it was to no avail. Kutztown defeated New Britain on Homecoming Week-End in a downpour of rain that saw the game wit- nessed by a mere 66 people. The next game, against Camp Edwards, proved to be no match for our boys. New Haven Teachers College placed the crown of points on the head of the Blue Devils, thirty-two of them. New Haven, showing a fine offensive and a defense that earned them the best defensive average of a small college in the country, proved too strong for the New Britainites as they pushed over touchdown after touchdown. It was a miserable ending for a poor season. Lack of depth proved to be the greatest handicap although Coach Creed and the squad let it be known they were making no excuse and that next year things will be different. Good luck boys, we are behind you, take us across the goal line many times! Bridgeport ....,. ..... T .C.C Trenton Teachers ....... ,.,..,. T .C.C Montclair Teachers T.C.C A.I.C. .................... T.C.C 129 v 130 In the past few years the story on Basketball usually starts out with T.C.C. came up with another outstanding five. Unfortunately, this was not the case this year. Handi- capped by a lack of depth and experienced good big men to do the rebounding, the Blue Devils had one of their poorest seasons in recent years. The result was nine victo- ries against eight losses. Led by Co-captains Dick Neville and Werner Henkel, the team started out strong but suffered four close defeats which hurt their chances for a good season. St. Francis, rated to be the best of their opponents, lived up to expectations by trouncing our boys, 61-46. Besides our co-captains other outstanding stalwarts on the squad were diminutive Tommy Deneen who proved to be a bundle of energy on the court, George Riley with his hook shot, Sy Sedacca with his fine passing, and Frank Toro doing a stellar job on the back boards. Frank, the big man on the team, was unable to get the help in con- trolling the back boards that proved to be the difference between victory and defeat. A few new big men were added to the squad this year and were coming along fine at the close of the season. Our hopes for the future will depend on the ability of the capable coach, Ross Merrick, to bring these boys along and work them in with the veterans who will be returning next year. Seventeen games played, fourteen victories against three defeats. Let the record speak for itself. Coach Majlinger, who is only a fledgling in coaching baseball-this being his third season-is doing a wonderful job. The Teachers from New Britain showed terrific hitting power at the plate. Tucky O'Brien, with a keen baseball eye, was a top star at the plate along with his playmates Don Race, Herbie Pennoyer, and Frank Toro. The Blue Devils were able to score against all opponents. After winning their opening game against a good Wesleyan University nine, our team lost two close ones to A.I.C. and Hillyer College then rebounded to win nine straight games. The Blue Devils then went on to win four out of their next five games to compile a neat record of fourteen wins against three defeats. The prospects for the future look very bright with such mound stars as joe Perrotta and Dick Fitzpatrick returning along with a host of other seasoned ball players. The situation looks well in hand. 1951 BASEBALL RECORD Wesleyan University .,.. T.C.C. A. I. C. .,.,...,..,..,.....,,... T.C.C. Hillyer College ......,.. T.C.C. Fairfield University .,..,. T.C.C. Their only defeat coming at the hands of the U-Conn Frosh by a close score of 69-62. Dean Owen deserves an extra round of applause for the enthusiasm that he is inserting into the fast growing popular sport of track at T.C.C. Led by Co-captains Frank Kess and jim Suitor, the New Britain cindermen made 1951 a record breaking year. New records were set by Frank Kess in the 120 yard and the 220 yard hurdles, jim Suitor in the 880 yard run, Bill Tischang in the 440 yard run, Joe Roman in the hammer throw, Dick Schermerhorn in the high jump and Klarman, Stone, Toro, and Stevens set a new mark in the 880 yard relay only to break their own records a few weeks later. Frank Kess proved to be the top point getter during the year followed closely by Joe Roman and Buzz Stevens, the top speedman on the track squad. With many veterans returning for the 1952 season, T.C.C. can look forward with expectations for another banner year in track. 1951 TRACK RECORD Trinity Frosh .....,...,...,,..,... 49 T.C.C ......... 65 Wesleyan Frosh ....,....,......, 65V2 T.C.C ......... 67M Bridgeport University .......,.. 55 T.C.C ......... 105 U-Conn Frosh ,,.......,,........... 69 T.C.C ..,....., 62 N.
