A fairly new or- ganization, this group is paramount in the boosting of student enthusiasm for games and other activities. Feature attractions have included skits prior to football and basketball games, pep assemblies and programs in some of the other Catholic schools. George Gilroy interviews tin man Taylor. Our congratulations to Central's 1949 football squad, coached by Harry Scarff. The Ram's victory packed season was started by a win over Mt. Angel. For the second time in two years, Central reached the State Tour- nament, only to be defeated in the quarter-finals, this time by Grant High School of Portland, who later became state champs. The Rams entered the tournament by defeating Scappoose for the second straight yeah With only nine lettermen to return next football season, it yet pro- mises to be a successful one. Highlights - Don Svhwenk intercepts a Mt. Angel pass in the end zone and gallops 102 yards for a touchdown. Ray Mosbrucher named most valu- able player. Bob Cassidy and Tom Maddocks named on Grant all opponent team. Cassidy, Maddocks, and Mosbrucker named on Portland All-Star team. ne1 s + X ff V , , An Ashland tackler knocks Thayer out of bounds. Planned, presented and performed entirely by the stu- dents of the Council's member schools, it was primarily a program of firstsH. The first Inter-School glee club performed, for the ardi first time sixteen booths were run jointly by at least two of the schools, and it was the first time the project was completely planned by students of the member schools. The Council is composed of members represent- ing Immaculata Academy, Academy of the Holy Child, St. Mary's Academy, Providence Academy of Vancouver, Columbia Prep and Central. The proceeds of this year's Mardi Gras will, as has been the custom in former years, be contributed to the foreign missions. At the time of publication of this book, the Rams had been able to play only two games, being victorious in each. The St. Helens Lions and Concordia Bluejays were the two losing opponents. Backed by a nunber of veterans, the outlook for the season is good. Already two pitchers have shone brightly - Denny 0'Flaherty in his shut-out over the Lions, and Don Delaney in his 4-hitter over Con- cordia.
