To the people of the City of I-loses who have helped Central Fatholie in its expansion and progress we respectfully dedi- cate this 1947 SCICPTER. Cen- tral is thankful for its friends and lmenefaetors who aided in the construction of the War Memorial Gyinnasium. The 19-17 SCEPTER is dedi- vated in a special way to the ffatholie families and parishes of the City of Roses. Central Cath- olic will always he grateful for their constant spiritual and ma- terial support. The new library and classroom unit is a living memorial to their generosity. The appreciation of the ad- ministration and faculty is mani- fest in the determination to train in greater degree and number the youthful citizens of the City of Hoses. ADMINISTRATION srunmrs . FACULTY The continued expansion and growth of Central can be traced directly to the CCHSGIOSS efforts of our Archbishop to provide everything necessary for the work of real Catholic education. The work of education at Central and throughout the archdioceso owes much of its progress to the wisdom and l a b or s of Father Schaefers and Father Sul- livan. Every Centralite can point with pride to the fruit of their labor. THE MOST REVEREND EDWARD D. HOWARD, D.D. Archbishop of Poitland in Oregon THE REVEREND FRANCIS J. SCHAEFERS. Primarily it is at group. each member of which has dedicated himself or herself to the develop- ment of youth. Their reward is not praise, their gain not financial: but their l'Ollll.lll0l'2ltlflll is the intellectual and spiritual success or lll4!ll'tl'UStS. Mi' ii' ' ,, Ni an-gg, 1 y wiv , Secondly, the faculty has prepared itself well for their task. Though not conspicuous for a great number of scholastic degrees. each member strives to keep up with the latest trends, using what is good and avoiding what is bad. During the summer one can find them in the various colleges and universities ofthe Country, enlarg- ing their knowledge and abilities. DeWITT Vice-President JAMES PATRICK MCDOWD Secretary-Treasurer The quality of a student body is known frequently by the quality of its officers. They often determine the spirit and enthusiasm of the student body by their own spirit and leadership. The position of the officers is a position of responsibility. Cen- tral has been fortunate in having a busy and active stu- dent body. Credit for the rapid growth of Central is due largely to an enthusiastic stu- dent body. Bob McCullugh in his un- assuming and capable manner accomplished much in main- taining a happy degree of school spirit and activity. Aided by Jim DeWitt and Pat McDowd, the student prexy kept the student body in pace with the progress of Central. Sponsored by the Inter- School Council for the benefit of the foreign missions, the lads and lassies contributed a total of almost seven hundred dollars. Each school offers the crowd a skit or stage routine and con- ducts a bazaar booth. Partici- pating schools are Central, Co- lumbia Prep. St. Mary's, Im- inaculata, and Holy Child Acad- 1-mv. An operetta, radio program, vaudeville, side- show, fortune tellers, darts, penny pitchers were the fea- tures in the gym. Movies are shown in the study hall, food and dancing keep up the tempo in the cafeteria. To enjoy all this there are always plenty of boys for the girls and plenty of girls for the boys. Undoubtedly the calibre and the record of our football team surpassed any other Maroon and Gold squad. Early in the season the Rams began to show a rugged defense and a smooth double-wing offense. By mid-season the eleven added polish in play that caught the interest of sports writers and grid fans. Mm' lxh 1011! On the evening of February 10, a large group of parents came to hear their sons argue the topic of Socialized Medicine. The judges, Rev. Arthur A.
