These two dynamic people head a faculty composed of priests, sisters, laymen and wom- en who work to educate the student in many aspects con- cerned with school life. Many of the teachers dedicate their time to moderate the extracurricular clubs and organizations after regular class hours. During the past year, some of the faculty members have been taking extra courses to keep abreast of the times in their specific field. All the teachers work as a unit to challenge the searching minds of the students at CCHS. They are interested in you and your future. 17 CCHS Personnel d 11 1 ' KJ His Excellency, Leo A. Clinton Room Brightens Life at CCHS Along with the appearance of our Clinton Room have come the many changes involved. Patience and co-operation have enabled the cafeteria staff to carry out their duties of cooking and serving the new lunch system with new equip- ment at a new location. The challenge of this change has been met and the result is the efficient management of the Clinton Room. The work of the custodians at Central Catholic is a varied and demanding job. Their services are needed by every class. Besides the duties of cleaning the school, these men are involved in the care of the Clinton Room. Their ef- ficiency enables the students and faculty to take pride in the appearance of their school. Pictured above are Al Snowder and John Diomente who hove shared some of the maintenance duties at CC during the 1966-1967 school year. Energy and persistence conquer all things. B. Voltaire The freshman student ' s first hesitating steps along the halls of Central Catholic High School are an indication of his future development here. There are changes to be made, new customs and terms to be learned. The protective shell of a familiar grade-school routine gives way to the fas- cinating, but alien, world of Central Catholic. The new student cannot sit back and wait for the es- tablished routine to adjust itself to his desires. Of course, teachers and officials are willing to help in any way they can; but the primary responsibility for a successful be- ginning in high school rests with the student himself. Par- ticipation in the classroom, compliance with regulations, belief in the school ' s traditions — all of these will govern the freshman ' s next three years here. Too often, the freshman class feels pushed aside amidst the maze of upperclassmen activity. The attitude becomes one of only half belonging to a student body that doesn ' t seem to care. This is not true. Everything that is only ob- served today can be participated in during three years o f tomorrows. Central Catholic High School not only wants its freshmen; it needs them. The Class of 1970 is not just looking towards this school ' s future — it is its future. p. Crabil C. Craighead C. Craighead 27 Orientation Day, C. Cummings C. Daley L. Daugherty W. Daugherty M. Cicero Each year, the incoming freshmen assemble exclusively to acquaint themselves with Central Catholic ' s halls, rules, teachers, and traditions. This past fall, the frosh met in the gymnasium on September 6. The students were as- signed to their homerooms and were given a shortened schedule to learn the location of their various classes. The crucial point of being a freshman becomes a reality when that fateful bell rings, announcing the first exchange of classes. This initial, hesitant push through crowded, un- familiar corridors becomes, in a few short weeks, a well- known path for Central Catholic ' s new class. This experience brings new fears and new smiles as the freshmen find themselves in the middle of associated chaos. However, the Class of 1970 soon became accustomed to the new mode of learning, as has every other class. K. Glasch R. Gnau C. Gomez M. Gomez D. Gonzalez R. Joseph Conrad Many heolthly freshmen stalk the halls of Central Catholic due to the lively efforts presented in their gym classes. Although the growth of intellectual ability is a main goal at C.C, the growth of a healthy body is of equal importance. Miss Heighway, Mr. Miller, and Mr. Morris help exuberant newcomers rid themselves of unused energy. Girls engage In activities which include volleyball, basketball, tumbling, whiffleball, and a variety of exercises. At the same time, the boys are occupied with push-ups, relay races, free- for-alls , and many kinds of calisthenics, each in- volving both brains and brawn. Sportsmanship, responsibility, respect, and a score of other valuable qualities are developed. The self-discipline gained through this athletic competi- tion will remain with this year ' s freshman and im- print a lasting influence on his future years. D. Sandoval N. Sandoval M. Schaab R. Carmean Sophomores Develop Through Activities With a year of experience behind them, the members of the class of ' 69 are justifiably proud of their school. Since last year, these timid and shy freshmen have emerged into enthusiastic and spirited sophomores, ready and will- ing for more. The sophomores have a right to be proud. They hove achieved a good scholastic record and some members of the class have won awards. They hove supported their teams through all types of games, and even the girls show some athletic talents. These sophomores have also had another new experi- ence. They have made their social debut. The annual ' Sophomore Sox Hop ' , their first taste of a big dance, has left them hungry for an even bigger dance next year. Other sophomores have excelled in the school ' s plays, either acting or working behind the scenes. The class of ' 69 proves that the spirit and enthusiasm of C. C, is increasing. These forceful sophomores are a credit to the school, and the school is proud of them. S. Coffee R. Comte F. Contadeluci J. Corbot 37 A. Our first three years at Central Catholic have slipped by and we have only one year left of high school. With this realization comes a desire to attain all the knowledge we can; Knowl- edge of chemistry and Algebra II ... a deeper knowledge of our faith — which is our life; a knowledge of home ec; a knowledge of the history of our nation. Some organizations are extensions of the classroom. They help the student gain more knowledge and experience in fields where he has special interest. The three language clubs, Latin, French, and Spanish, aid the students by delving into the culture and history of the people in addition to the basic grammar and sentence structure of the language. The Science Club brings speakers to CC each month to lecture on Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics. Some organizations are completely separate from the curriculum and introduce students to new vistas not offered in the classroom. The Mission Club uses its weekly collection money for the advancement of American and over- seas missions. Th e Student Spiritual Council helps Father Hammond and the religion teach- ers to guide the spiritual life of all at CCHS. Providing development to calculating minds through tournaments is the Chess Club. Some organizations require many hours of the student ' s time after class. Every member of the Music Department will agree that the hard work renders a feeling of satisfaction and ful- fillment. Home Economics prepares girls to cope with all types of household situations from cooking to home management. 57 The Central Catholic Symphonic Band. Wisdom 5:18-19 Sports Spotlight 1966-1967 Sport is the pitting of one ' s body against another for the purpose of defeating that other. Sports are as different as the people who play them. Basket- ball demands size, speed, and agility; Football asks for tre- mendous strength; Golf needs concentration and accurate abil- ity; Cross Country demands long windedness; Wrestling needs smooth co-ordination, where tennis needs agility. The sacri- fice that the boys go through should also be noted. A large amount of time and a large amount of sacrifice are the keys to success. C.C. was well represented in all sports in tough city compe- tition, and although our school ' s population was small, it gave a fine, rousing demonstration of itself in spirit and ability. 77 .a 1 M 3S 7r Sf j iBt ie s m 7-?
