s Teachers Are Persons Poets and Prophets The role of a teacher is a complex one. The teacher must be friend, confidant and advisor as well as instructor and guide. Each day brings new problems and new challenges as new ideas and thoughts take form. The demands made of a teacher urge him to find some- where within himself, the ability and grace to fulfill the needs of his students, for his influence over their growth and future is great. The results of his labor are often obscure but the satis- faction is great when he glimpses the beginning of an idea, the acceptance of a new theory, or the beauty of the light of understanding in a student. These happenings may be brief, it is true, nevertheless, they are real. UN 17
