Page 98 The Solvhomoref Moving into the upper bracket, the Sophomores are now officially upperclassmen They well deserve this title and have much proof. They successfully completed the year under the capable guidance of president Tom Jehl. Tomis athletic ability is indicative of his entire class. ww 1 '? Treading the hardwood the sophs were exceptional with four of their number on the team. Those were: Jerry Hyde. Sam Talarico, Bob Elder, and Tom Jehl. We,1'e really looking for a Hhang up team in the next two years from you boys. On the gridiron they also rated high, with twenty-two representing them. The band was well supported by them too, with fifteen of their members participating. Many were zealous mission workers, while others were ever faithful Echo and Shamrock room representatives. As newly enstated upperclassmen, we know you will live up to our expectations. Everyone knew the team could not win all the time, but even so, the games that were entered on the losing side of the ledger were toughly contested victories for ou r opponents. Central Catholic fans, led by energetic cheer leaders, were at the games, cheer- ing and encouraging their hard-hitting griddrs. The team played to Win. Football Dance The ballots had been Cast, the nian had been elected. and the day of the dance arrived. Bob Clasper was to replace Joe Greniaux as football king on November lsl. The Couples danced to the soft musie of the orvhestra while awaiting Bolfs crowning and speech. The music was good. and spirits were equally in tune. To dance seemed the only thing to do. for this affair was the official Closing ofthe football season. .447 t They bloelrerl mul they lflCh'16I1. th e y shorefl V Q and they jerlrerl, they V s c r e a 111 e rl and they zrlzispererl, they coaxed and they lJull1'efl. The cast, with the support of the sound effect and stage prop groups. gave a splendid performance. This delightful three act comedy was held on October 28 and 29. The yearis first play was a success. ,S fgv? 5 1 I V, Parents' zggkl The parents, unlike some of their children, were prompt on the eve- ning of November 14. After all, it isn't every day that they can visit the faculty and follow their childrens' schedules. As there was some confusion as to the location of the rooms. helpful students served as in- dividual information booths to help solve this problem. Both parents and teachers enjoyed the back to school night. .fvxfx 'RICHARD ABBOTT RICHARD L. ADAS FRANK ADANG LEROY B. ADANG ROBERT LEE ALLEN CARL ALLES RICHARD P. ALT FRANK E. ALTER PAUL E. Under the excellent direction of Mr. Guthier, our hand has al- ways made a fine showing. The comical lead soldier march amused everyone. The finest exhibition of their skill in music and in march- ing was given in the Armistice Day parade, their first marching per- formance in two years. Yes. we are all proud of the Central Catholic hand. Page I-I Holzkiays CHRISTMAS PLAY THE LosT CAROL Lovely and entertaining are the words which were applied to the C h r i s t m a 5 Cantata. The Lost Carolf' which was presented hy the talented Clee Cluh on December 20, was truly a success. THE LIVING ROSARY On October 7, soft music filled the darkened auditorium as the Legion of Maryis Living R 0 s tl r y filed into formation. Girls in for- mals and boys in cassocks paid trib- ute to Our Lady. Pnev In ,,dN They ran, ju rn p e d, threw, and shot. Butz, Hllg'll67ZUl'd, and Tour- ney did not a l zv a y .S score, but they .scored enough, to give C. C. a good team and some very thrilling games. Page 16 KQ Bczyhelhall 4'Irish, Irish, I R I S Hf were the words that thundered from the lips of Central Catholic fans. How well we all know that yell, and the excited faces of our friends. Over there, someone spills a bag of pop corn as one of our boys makes a basket. Someone yells, '4See, I told you he,d make it.'7 All of this is a part of those basketball games we love so much. What would we ever do Without them? unior Dance Some things start with a bang. Others end with a bang. Although there was not any real noise, atom bombs fell 011 the couples below. This little oddity, which occured in the middle ofthe event, helped to make the HAtomic Catastrophew a success. Many Juniors and members of other classes were present, although it was held on the 24th of January, a school night. We all enjoyed dancing to the old familiar music on this memorable occasion. , Voorhees was counting the money, Voors was dancing a slow one. Fr. Wirtz was watching the sta g line, and Fr. Vichuras was foretell- ing history g r a ri e s Page when the MA L 0 ni i c Catastrophe happen- ed. Retreat Each year the Central Catholic faculty provides a spiritual retreat for its students. Education of the mind alone is not enough. Self discipline for the soul is even more important. Rev. John Sullivan O. P., the retreat master, gave inspirational sermons. Students found encouragement in his private consultations. School routine and petty grievances were temporarily for- gotten. Quiet halls hore mute evidence that hearts and minds were focused upon their Redeemer. The retreat was a success. ..t..'s-r Q 'REBER . 1 Senior Prom At last the bewitching hour is at hand, for the day of the prom is here. The young belles and beaux, in their prettiest formal clothes, relax to the music of the orchestra. The prom queen, Joan Gladieux, reigns over the dance with the help of her attendants, and, proud, not envious, eyes look upon her as she receives her crown. Conversations are resumed as the music begins again. lVlen1ories of the Senior Prom will always he Cherished. They lost the first two games to North Side and Auburn by very close scores at the 'gRedskins , but were turned away by two points Outplayed by Central and South Side, they were again the victims of very close games. With renewed efforts, the reserve squad sparked themselves to a 53-35 victory over Concordia. Witll some former players on the var- sity, the reserves proved their ability by wins over Huntertown and Berne. Then, Dunkirk and Hoagland were victims of the much improved reserve team. They finished up the season with four straight wins-Leo, New Haven, Decatur Catholic and Bluffton. By winning 10 games and losing 8, the reserves showed us that C. C. will have plenty of good material to pick from next year. Tom Ream Page 64 They got another Hcrackn in a hard fought game. Although teamwork and physical fitness is neeessary. they can be listed as secondary. This training in the fundamentals of basketball will. in the future. produce bigger and better Basketball teams. Tom Ream Page H5 azi- 'Trl Xsw-,,., Boys' Intramurals There is one specific purpose for having Boys Intramurals in Central Catholic High School - to produce boys of character who will become better Catholics and citizens. In order to provide athletic competition for boys who were not on the team, the Intramurals were instituted. If a sense of moral virtues and a love of fair play can be developed, it will serve imrneasurably for the welfare of the community. Besides being a character builder, Intramurals also serves as a body builder. Intramurals help to provide healthy young men for the defense of our country. Tom Ream SENIORS Room-303. Like the Sophs, the Juniors too have opened a way to basketball fame, with their president Bob Butz. as leader . . . athletically ad well as scholastically. Five important team members were: Bob Voorhees. Lee Hortsman, Bob Butz, Tom Logan, and Gene Wag11e1'. Sharing honors, were nine mighty Juniors on the football team with plenty of Mwhat it takesii. Many hjaunty Juniors were musically inclined. As such was the case the band, orchestra and glee club drew large dividends. lVe're leaving with an air of confidence Juniors. feeling sure that you will successfully carry on. as you have proven you can.
