' The primary purpose of the study of chemistry is to teach the scientific method ; that is, the appeal to experiment. Thus the stu¬ dents are led to the humble acknowledgment of the omnipotence of the Author of nature’s laws, the secrets of which man has been per¬ mitted gradually to discover. The second aim is to acquire a body of information about the preparation, properties, and uses of chemicals which are vital to our modern life. Such information should help students to live and act more intelligently and with greater understanding in our increasingly complex civilization. Then they should be equipped to use scientific discoveries for the better¬ ment of mankind. Sister M. Patricia O.S.F. (M.S.) Chemistry (Sliemidtrt Page 27
