Sister M. Carmelita O.S.F. (A.B.) Religion, Spanish To develop the students’ ability to speak and write Spanish is the aim of the Spanish department. This is accomplished by stress¬ ing work in pronunciation, grammar, read¬ ing, and conversation. Spanish has great practical value since it develops a knowledge of the language which todav takes on new importance because of our Latin American relationships. The course definitely strives to stimulate a lively interest in the “Good Neighbor Policy” and to teach an appreciation of our neighbors to the south through a study of Latin America and its people. Sister M. Concilia O.S.F. (B.A.) Religion, Spanish

(M.A.) Religion, English The four year course in literature is permeated with the Catholic view of life and the world. I ' he entire field of American and English literature is covered with special emphasis on the Catholic con¬ tribution to the language. These aspects of the Catholic way of life are designed to develop good literary taste and sound Catholic belief and conduct. Courses in journalism and speech are offered in the senior year. Rev. J. Sister M. Roselma O.S.F. (M.A.) Relifjion, French Fidiicatioii in French is a power-point for developing Christians. No text book course—this. It reaches out to study French in all its aspects: race, faniilv, history, education, and politics. A study of the cultural contributions of France is presented with a view to stimulate a deeper appreciation of the radiance and rich influence upon civilization. To render it more interesting this department has a film-strip library, a large record collection and a classroom library of over a hundred books (fiction, biography, and travel), which treat of French characteristics. In future years when students have for¬ gotten tenses of irregular verbs there will still remain in them a deep social-mindedness rooted in French Christian convictions. erman The interest in the study of the German language has not di¬ minished because of the world’s contempt for the arrogance of the former rulers of Germany. Resides learning to read, write, and speak the language, the students study the geography of the country, her interesting historical places, industries, natural resources, and forms of entertainment. Old customs, legends, and scientists are en¬ grossing subjects. Since music is basic in the German temperament, German songs and rollicking folk tunes may often be heard emanat¬ ing from the German room. Sister M. David O.S.F. (B.A.) Religion, German, English
