On May 10, 1952, our little group of 25 s niors left Cente ville to begin
an exciting eleven day tour of points of int rest in the Vast On th first
day we reall d that e had four wonderful sponsors and a wond rful bus drlver
Mr McCoy They proved to be very helpful and understanding rhen we got lost
ran out of money, o w re a nuisance ln general
The first night out was spent at the Fort Llgonl r Hotel in Ligonier,
Pennsylvania The next day we toured the Gettysburg battlefield and cemetery
where Abraham Lincoln made his famous addr ss That night we arrived in Wash
ington, D C While we were there we went through the FBI, the Bureau of Printing
and Engraving, th Jashlngton Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson's Tomb
The Arlington Cem tery, The Library of Congress, The Supreme Court Smithsonian
Institute, The Museum of Natural History, Congress, and Rep Hq1vey'g offi e
We also took a boat trip down the Potomac and a side trip to Mount Vernon Mr
Outland made a friend of one of the little gray squirrels on the Pres1dent's
lawn by feeding him a cough drop and giving him another one to bury The above
picture was taken ust before we went on our tour of the Capitol
New York prov d to be even more exciting than Washington We had a very
colorful guide vho took us on a tour of the City The only two stops that
we made on this tour were in Chinatown and at the Cathedral of St John The
Divine Some of ua took a ferry to the statue of Liberty, others we t to Stage
shows and a few of the avid baseball fans went to se the Cubs play the Giants
After we left New York, we drove through West Point This seemed to the
others to be the highlight of the trip for Elmyra We spent that night in the
Mark Twain Hotel in Elmira, New York While we were there a group of us went
swimming in the new YMCA pool
The n xt day we journeyed to Niagra Falls We stayed there overnight
ln order to see the falls ln all their beauty when they were lighted up at
night Our trio under the falls in the Maid of th Mists was also enjoyed b
ll the students
After driving all day through Canada, we arrived at Detroit, Michigan
where we spent the last night out Most of us were too tired to go out
In the evening, during a rain just like the one when we left, we arrived
home at last in Centerville We enjoyed our trip and would like to go again
but no place compares with Home.
Since Elmyra Jane Carlton moved to Centerville after the will and Prophecy
was published, we are going to place them here
I, Elmyra Carlton, will my 'Yankee accent to Ronnie Levesque so that he can
converse with Southerners more easily
We prophesy that Elmyra Jane, otherwise known as Frowney May, will make the
most outstanding center that the Globetrotters ever had, and that she will
soon be living near West Point. I 6
