gkiksi., THE HEART AND EAC-LE .ici ki Z oot 21 N THE opening of the season about 47 sults were checked out thrs IS one of the largest squads ln the hlstory of our school After two weeks practice Center met Salrda at Sahda nn a practlce game Salrda Vs Center September 4 l929 The hrrst game of the season was at Salida The game started at two oclock Center chose to receive and after a few unsuccessful trles Center was forced to punt Salida returned the punt for a touchdown Sallda was very strong on the offensive and scored 62 pomts during the game In the last auarter Edwards caught a pass and scored The fmal score was 62 6 rn favor of Salrda Our next game was wlth Antomto The game was not scheduled untll September Antomto Vs Center September Zl 1929 Antomto chose to receive the kick off and returned the ball only a short dlstan e The game was played In Antonlto s territory most of the flrst half The half ended wrth a score of 60 m favor of Center In the second half Center ran the score up to 31 The score at the end of the game was Center 31 Antonlto U ln this game Captam Edwards recelved an mjury ln hrs slde that kept htm from playmg the remamder of the season Hrs backing up the lme and lme plungmg were missed also hrs fnghtmg spmt and leadership It IS hoped that he will be able to play next year Sargent Vs Center September 29 1929 Sargent came to Center for our thrrd game of the season Sargent kicked and Center had to punt after three unsuccessful tnes Sargent started a serxes of off tackle plunges to score a touchdown All the scormg was clone rn the first half In the second half Center played a much better game and showed some very good football The score was Center 0 Sargent I9 Del Norte came to Center for our fourth conference game This was expected to be a close hard fought game as the weight and experience of both teams were about the same Del Norte Vs Center October 5 1929 Del Norte chose to recelve and started a long march down the field but were stopped wlthln three yards of the goal lme Thrs was expected several trmes dunng the game Del Norte scored m the first quarter and made their pomt The game was very even the rest of the game In the latter part of the fourth quarter half back Ellls caught a pass and brought the score up to 7 6 rn Del Norte s favor Center failed to make therr polnt and the game ended wrth thls score The game at Alamosa was one of the best played games of the season Both teams fought hard and fast throughout the game But the breaks seemed to be against Center for out of three touchdowns only one counted Page Srxtp-mne G, .... .,,. ......, .0 l,,,...,,. s , 1 1 l9. Alamosa Vs Center October 26 l929 The fxrst quarter was played' entirely nn Alamosa s terrltory Center punted over Alamosa s safety and Frke touched lt down on the next play our lme went through and tackled the Alamosa man behind the goal lme Alamosa scored their only touchdown rn the second quarter on a pass Soon after the start of the fourth quarter Center kicked over the goal lme The ball was glven to Alamosa on the twenty yards lme but the lme blocked thrree successive attempts to kick and scored a safety After thrs Center started a drive clown the freld Most of thus yardage was made by Keck but the lme deserves lots of the credrt because of the holes they made and thelr strong defence Keck carried the ball over for a touchdown In the last mmute of play DeVault mtercepted a pass and was carrred out of bounds wrthm a foot of the goal lme The game ended here wrth a score of I0 6 rn Centers favor Center s next game was with the undefeated team of Monte Vrsta The held was m perfect condltlon for speed Monte s chief requlsrte Monte Vrsta Vs Center November 2 l929 Thls game was entlrely Monte s as they outcharged us throughout the entlre game Monte had a very good offensive team and showed good form The score was Monte 3l Center 0 Center was wlthm five yards of Monte s goal lme when the game ended At this time of the season we were havmg very poor weather The field was covered with snow and we dnd not get much practlce for two weeks We went to Del Norte for our next game Del Norte Vs Center November Il l929 Therr fxeld was wet and muddy and so the quarters were cut short lhe feature of this game was DeVault s puntmg once standrng on hrs oum nme yard lme He punted the ball to Del Norte s twelve yard lme Edwards only let the ball be returned eight yards The game was evenly played for three quarters wrth Del Norte leadmg by one touch Page Seventy K., ...... .,' 5 .',, ..... ,..
