VARSITY GOLF LEFT TO RIGHT: Guy Bent, Buddy Lockett, Bob Monstadt, Terry Stevens, Jimmy Brown, Elmo Cox, and Larry Stevens. Coach Morton Braswell Bolstered by the consistent play of returning lettermen Jimmy Brown of Bastrop, Louisiana, and Larry and Terry Stevens of Shreveport, the 1967 Gent golfers experienced a highly enjoyable season. From the Southern Mississippi Invitational until the completion of the schedule, the Gents became increasingly strong in the matches. Adding to this strength was returning squadman Elmo Cox, along with three very promising freshmen — Guy Bent, Buddy Lockett, and Bob Monstadt. With only " Ole Pro " Brown graduating, the prospect looks exceedingly bright for the 1968 Gent linksters. The novel aspect of this year ' s team was the fact that accompanying the men on some of the matches was one of the South ' s leading women amateurs. Miss Jeannie Butler, a freshman at Centenary, promises to bring laurels not only to her- self, but to The ' Nary as well. Jeannie Bi; 147

WOMEN ' S GYMNASTICS Coach Vannie Edwards Firs t row, left to right: Marianne Woolner, Diane Masse, Karen Lively. Second row: Mary Camille Traweek, Marnie Bankson, Janie Speaks, Arlette Ramsey. Third row: Linda Stephenson, Susan McDonnell, Nancy Kotsch. Travel is the keynote for the Centenary gymnastics team. Vannie Edwards and his ten women gymnasts have presented numerous clinics and exhibitions through- out the United States, including six cities in Louisiana, two in Texas, and three in Tennessee. The highlight of this year ' s activities was a fabulous nine-day tour of Monter- rey and Mexico City, Mexico. The Mexi- cans were not only very hospitable, but were also the most enthusiastic crowds that the team had ever encountered. Competition commenced with a trian- gular meet pitting Ohio State, Penn State and Centenary. Victorious in this meet, held in Columbus, Ohio, the gym- nasts motored to Kent, Ohio, where they defeated Kent State. The team also faced the University of Southern Illinois in a dual meet later in the year at Carbondale, Illinois. The team also attended the National Championships, the Mid-South Meet, the Women ' s Intercollegiates, and the North American Championships. Coach Edwards deserves a lion ' s share of the credit for the team ' s performances, for he unselfishly devotes his time to bet- ter the team and the sport of gymnastics. 148
