The 1967 Anilec Celina Senior High School Celina, Ohio A Year to Remember Alma Mater We sing to the school of the green and the white. The school with the spirit true. We ' ll ever keep our honor bright. As pure as crystal dew. Then raise your joyful voices high And Alma Mater sing; Thy name we ' ll ever glorify As fruits from thy labor we bring. 2 Table of Contents Seniors 5 Underclassmen 33 Administration 49 F acuity 55 Organizations 61 Music 93 Sports 103 Dances 123 Honors 131 Graduation 139 i 3 Foreword Graduation day is now upon us. Amid the turmoil of exams, and the excitement of Commencement we are torn between golden memories and great expectations. It seems like only yesterday that we began a great adventure packed with problems to be solved and dreams to be fulfilled. Now we have reached the finale of that adventure only to realize the even greater challenge that lies before us. We realize that there will be oceans of unknown joys and sorrows, but also we know we will never walk alone. Then one day as we look back into the past we will have these moments to treasure forever. The Editors • ' .V 1 I b Senior Officers President - Alan Summers, Vice-President - Sue Frahm, Secretary - Mary Jane Williams, Treasurer - Cheryl Rexroat, Adviser - Mr. Wilson. Our Advisor The Senior Class looked forward to Graduation with anxiety. College and job applications were completed as they make plans for the future. Amid the turmoil of College En¬ trance Examinations, the American College Test, and District Scholarship tests, the Seniors also found time to show their skills on the athletic field and in the classroom. The last few months of school were filled with decision-making. Name cards and graduation announce¬ ments were ordered and Senior pic¬ tures were taken. The Seniors, eager to find a place in the society of tomorrow, view¬ ed their final months with anticipation. 6 DEBORAH JANE ANDERSON DEBI COLLEGE PREPARATORY; GAA 1,2,3,4, Secretary 3, Treasurer 4; Interscholastic basketball 1,2,3,4; Inter - scholastic volleyball 1,2,3, 4; Interscholastic basketball 1,2,3,4; Chorus 1; Operetta 1; Joy Teens 2, 3,4; TCR 2; Tatler Staff 3,4; Intramurals 1,2,3,4. Shall I have naught that is fair? saith he; Have naught but the bearded grain? Though the breath of these flowers is sweet to me, I will give them all back again. He gazed at the flowers with tearful eyes, He kissed their drooping leaves; It was for the Lord of Paradise He bound them in his sheaves. My Lord has need of these flowers gay, The Reaper said, and smiled; Dear tokens of the earth are they, Where He was once a child. They shall all bloom in the fields of light, Transplanted by my care, And saints, upon their garments white, These sacred blossoms wear. And the mother gave, in tears and pain, The flowers she most did love; She knew she should find them all again In the fields of light above. Oh, not in cruelty, not in wrath, The Reaper came that day; ’T was an angel visited the green earth, And took the flowers away. 30 AFS Student ALAN HONEYCOMBE This year ' s Foreign Exchange Student, Alan Honeycombe, from Mel - bourne, Australia, has been one of our most outstanding AFS students. Class of 1968 The Junior Class, as in the years past, has been responsible for many activities held dur¬ ing the school year. Con¬ cession stands, record hops and candy sales are their main money¬ making projects. The money received from their efforts is used to sponsor the Junior-Se¬ nior Prom, which is held in the spring. Besides having a high academic record, the juniors were worthy of merit in the athletic field also, and contrib¬ uted greatly as leaders in the school. As the years pass, there will be no doubt of the ability of this group. They will continue to be leaders not only in school, but in our community and world as well. ORGANIZATIONS Chess Club President - Alan Honeycombe Sec-Treasurer - Mike Kittle Advisor - Mr. Bowsher Advisor - Mr. Chamberlin The Chess Club is a newly formed organization within the school. Its in¬ ception was mainly due to the efforts of Carl Munson and Dave Forman, who went to the tro uble to draw up a consti¬ tution. At the first meeting of the Chess Club, Alan Honeycombe, AFS student, was elected presiding officer, and Mike Kittle secretary. A chess pyramid was drawn up enabling the 25 members to challenge a member on a higher line, or to be challenged by a member on a lowe r line. A trophy will be award- ed to the person who wins the largest number of games during the year, and another to the winner of the tournament at the end of the year. This club has proved very beneficial for each mem¬ ber, and we hope that it will continue with equal success in years to come. Library Club Advisor - Miss Stauffer President - Joe Doenges Vice-President - Sandy McHenry Secretary-Treasurer - Karla Nevergall The Library Club of Celina Senior High School is a service organization, acquainting students with library duties. The only mem¬ bership requirement is that a member work at least two periods per week in the library, aid¬ ing students and library staff. The members receive no money for their help. Special events for the club throughout the year include a Christmas party and a trip to a library in a large city. In addition to this, a Book Fair was held March 13 through 20, in the library. The pro¬ fit from this fair was donated through the American Library Association to the libraries of Florence, Italy, which were seriously dam¬ aged in November, 1966, by floods. Since the group wasn’t organized until late in the sea¬ son, they had the satisfaction of play¬ ing at only one of the games. Then, for lack of anything to do, they began to give concerts and to play for civic organizations. For each performance a new and original script was prepared, and there was always plenty of action in¬ cluded. The band received several comments of approval, but the partici¬ pants in the group feel that they enjoy¬ ed their performances just as much as did their audiences. Student Council President - Rick Dafler Vice-President - Dave Forman Secretary - Carol Copeland Treasurer - Chris Coate Advisor - Mr. James Chamberlin Under the guidance of Mr. James Chamberlin, the Celina Senior High School Student Council began the new scholastic year enthusiastically. The main goals of the Council were to promote understandingbetween the faculty and the student body, and to increase the school spirit. In addi¬ tion to these main purposes, the coun¬ cil also has sponsored the assemblies, the Homecoming Dance, the Sweet¬ heart Dance, and Alan Honey combe, our AFS student. The money to sponsor these ac¬ tivities was earned by the council through selling bookcovers and pencils and by operating concession stands during the football season and the bas¬ ketball tournaments. The council is also in charge of the money from the Sweetheart candidates ' jars. Row 1: L. Bills, W. Ellinger, S. Mcllroy, A. Honeycombe, D. Cron, L. Burd, V. Pierce, G. Stott, D. Houts. Row 2: P. Through his untiring efforts the chorus presented a number of performances. The varsity choir, combining with St. Marys, gave a concert in February. For the first time in the history of Celina Sr. High the freshmen presented a musical entitled Bandwagon. The upper classmen presented the public with another superb production of the Broadway version of The Sound of Music. The Christmas season brought the cheer and sound of carols sung by the freshmen, varsity, and second period choir in a special Christmas concert. Row 1: J. Grimn, K. Hellwrath, C. Houts, S. Freshman Choir 95 Underclassmen Present Ready for Action! 96 Getting the show on the road Amy and Debby fly in So-long farewell The Sound of Music” The Band Wagon FRESHMAN OPERETTA The Band Wagon came to the Celina Senior High School Auditorium in March. The Freshman Chorus pre¬ sented the first Freshman Operetta in the history of the school. The story concerned an All-State Boys Band and a girls chorus arriving in town simul¬ taneously with hilarious results. Four of the boys and girls get their suitcases mixed up, and decide to make the most of their calamity. The antics become wilder as the story progresses, but all ends happily. The leading male roles were ex¬ cellently handled by: D. Bair, B. Bar¬ ger, K. Bryan, D. Cron, J. Evans, C. Felver, D. Howell, D. Kiester, and A. Smith, as were the female roles played by: B. Doenges, D. Gross, K. Kelly, P. O’Brien, C. Ruble, and B. Smith. Mr. Eby and everyone agreed that the Band Wagon was a great success and the young actors and actresses did very well. Senior Band Members The Senior members of the CSHS band are to be congratulated for their achievements. These members, most of whom have participated in the music de¬ partment for four years, have received awards for their musical talents. They have played at the annual operettas, spring concerts, and selected orchestras, and have marched at all of the football games. Their dedication and support in all these activities have not only been ad¬ vantages to them, but also have earned and maintained respect for the Celina Sen¬ ior High School Band. Morgan’s Row 1: K. This year ' s defensive-minded outfit compiled a spark¬ ling 8-2 record, losing only to Shawnee and St. Marys. Row 2: Mr. Dean White, Denny Jerome, Basketball The Bulldogs started the season with a flash, but a poor shooting per¬ centage, and some stiff competition cooled things off. They finished the season with a 5 won, 12 lost record. They threw quite a few scares into their opponents, but they just couldn’t find the winning combination to get things rolling. The season proved to be a lit¬ tle different than last years but was not a let-down to the fans, the players, and the coaches. Also, Coach White got a chance to play his younger players, and with the added experience that they re¬ ceived this year we should find the Bull¬ dogs a vastly improved ball club in the future years. It is through their efforts and willingness to devote their time that Celina Senior Pep Club has originated. During the school year they painted an infinite number of signs and organized many pep sessions to help boost team and student spirit. Appreciation is ex¬ tended to the Cheerleaders for their de¬ votion to the school spirit and the team. Alan’s Australian Football Teams This year, our AFS Student, Alan Honeycombe, introduced a new game called Australian Football.
