Breiten- bach (B.S. Frostburg State; General Biology 10; Anatomy and Physiology 12; Sophomore Class Advisor). Catonsville’s Science Depart¬ ment began the year with a hearty commendation from the Middle States Evaluating Committee, who recognized “a science faculty that is well-prepared, cooperative . . . promotes science activity at different levels. Teaching methods and techniques are flexible and attempt to fulfill the needs of students. Thus, the total program in science is noteworthy.” Catons- ville was commended for “a labor¬ atory-oriented and activity-cen¬ tered science curriculum, . . . abundance of science related materials,” and a wide variety of teaching methods and tech¬ niques. While senior science options had poor enrollment this year, the department envisioned increased science electives in the future. A new course added this year was directed primarily toward the underclassmen—Mini-Math Chemistry. It was popular for its practical applications of standard chemistry. High School Biology, the sopho¬ more course, consisted of six con¬ secutive modules, each emphasiz¬ ing a different aspect of Biology. This course provided much greater freedom to both student and teacher. Artman Reeves (B.S., Univ. of Md.; Phys¬ ics 11-12; assistant coach—Varsity Foot¬ ball; coach—JV Baseball). 27
