Current affairs intensifies interest. El departmento de las lenguas extranjeras trabajfi mucho este afio pour donner une atmosphere stimulante pour les estudiants. More emphasis was placed on cur¬ rent affairs and less on literature. Students were not only taught to be proficient in speaking the lan¬ guages, but they were exposed to the cultures found in the French and Spanish speaking countries. This gave them more of an insight into the lives of the people, and it presented a more enjoyable time in the classes. The language lab was used to help improve the stu¬ dents’ speech and grammar. Dur¬ ing the study periods, students could go to the language lab for further practice and study. The year was climaxed by Spanish and French field trips, further enhanc¬ ing students’ identification with foreign cultures. Frank M.
