If 373 , , F Q ,QW Velvet campus evolves from urchilecfs drawing board JUST SEVEN SHORT years ago Catonsville Senior High School was simply a name-an incomplete plan on an architects drawing board. But, as time passed, men of vision and imagination filled in all the minute details and transferred the plan from the drawing board to our present velvet campus. Wcmrking together. architects. construction engineers, and school officials brought out of a wooden tract of land a modern high school. During the first year of this project, thousands of cubic yards of earth were pushed and coaxed into a more pleasing contour. Gradually a steel skeleton reared itself against the horizon as truckloads of bricks and cinder blocks arrived daily. In time the disarray gave way to such luxuries as tennis courts. tracks. and connecting walkways. Newly-planted trees and shrubs lent to the campus an air of animation, beauty. and individuality. Fresh green sod eradicated the last traces of the tremendous amount of work that had progressed for two years. The final touch was added with a nature trail which winds its way through the retained wooded areas. Finally, after three years of work, the velvet campus was completed. Mellowed with use, the campus has shown itself not only to be symbolic of achievement and impressiveness, but also to be symbolic of a way of life.
