As commencement draws near and you begin to your years in the Cato-Meridian Central School district, I hope mains clear. You have gained a sound education and now possess will make you a useful citizen. Though today you may not recognize it, the fact that you are graduating gives testimony to your skills and only as a student within our school district, but also as a com unity. Our futures are directly tied to each other and your leadership skills, your courage and your foresight. I am in a unique position as the superintendent at Cato Rober1L.Eazon Admmustranve Assl3'am For Buszness Manage:-wen: Board of of success in reflect upon one fact re- the tools that abilities not citizen within our to your abilities, -Meridian Central School of viewing the entire school district. I have visited kindergarten classes where young children are just beginning to learn. I have seen middle school students experience the difficulties of maturing and I have seen members of the senior class getting ready to take their place in adult society. In all my visits I have witnessed students who care about each other. I have seen students who care about the school and about their community. I have also found students who are concerned about learning and achieving. The other fortunate experience I have had this year is in working with all of the district teachers and staff members. We, in the Cato-Meridian school district, are fortunate to have a staff that genuinely cares about student wel- fare. The staff members are committed to operating the school district in the best interests of the students and the community. Personally, I believe that the future of the Cato-Meridian Central School district is a positive one. Many changes have taken place this year and I expect the future will see our continued growth as we strive to improve the school dis- trict. We will encounter many obstacles, however, with persistence and support of the school community we can achieve our goals. In closing, let me remind each of you that you have joined in a partnership with the Cato-Meridian school district. This partnership is an ever lasting one that goes beyond graduation day. This year as you receive your diploma briefly reflect upon the changes that have occurred since you were in kindergarten and try to imagine the changes that will occur in the next twelve years. Your support in helping us manage these changes is absolutely necessary. Again, the very best of success and happiness. ...Ae-N --ttf Sincerely. ,ff A ff KMQHK wlmff' Richard Thomas Superintendent of Schools Q . N l r Q aw f 'R an 4 f-- , Z, -M . Y' 0 W 9 f' w . Us x X xi :Qi M 3. k we-Q N DiB'fl'iCh'S Goodbye June 1982 ebe Mitschuler! When my father told me that he had to goto America to work there I was shock- . He said it would be a good experience if I went with him Cwell, he didn't give my y choicei. First, I didn't want to go, because I didn't want to loose all my friends. ut then, I thought about it for a while, and I came up with a lot of advantages: see- g a new country, getting to know the customs, learning the language and making w friends. That was in December 1979. Now, as my stay is almost over, I look back at my two years here, and I remember e first few weeks in school. At first, I didn't have any friends, and I walked the halls like a ghost, But then, er a while I got to know many people and I made a lot of friends. All those friends lped me learn the language and helped me fit in. Another problem I had was to learn to like the food. The food in Germany is tural and very nutritious and everything is made fresh. Here it is mass produced d pre-prepared. But I like some food that we don't have in Germany, for example pcakes and twinkies Clike Chris Foglia says: the health food J . In the winter I went skiing with the Ski Club. I liked it very much, the only problem as that the mountains were too small and the trails too short. In spring I went to Quebec with the French Club. We had a lot of fun climbing up d down the fire-escapes. I will never forget the time in the Mall when David Russell id to a girl: Vous avez des balIoons? . In the school year '81 !82, I went out for football. I had a great time trying to kick Id goals and extra-points, even though I fell down almost every time. Too bad that e had a slow start and lost the first three games, because I would have liked to go the Dome and play there. Overall, I liked my stay inthe U.S.A. and I really learned a lot. Ich hatte viel Spass nd ich hoffe, wieder einmal zuruckkommen zu konnen. Tschuss Q45 Dietrich Q. Sports Summary 1981-82 FIELD HOCKEY - Despite monsoon weather and numerous injuries, both teams showed hearty spirit and enthusiasm. Although the squads were both young and inexperienced they posted a 1 and 6 record. The out- comes of most games, however, didn't truly reflect the growth of the teams throughout the season. Since most of the athletes were sophomores the teams show tremendous promise for the coming years. CROSS COUNTRY - Although no record was posted for the boys, the girls faired much better with a 3 and 1 record. The boys squad nearly defeated league foes Port Byron Q22-333 and Phoenix 126-31j . The team, the biggest in years, numbered eighteen and even though the squad is losing five seniors, it seems to show a great potential in the coming years. FOOTBALL - After a slow start the varsity team completed a successful season with a 4 and 4 record. After losing their first three games, they fought back winning four out of their last five. Official statistics showed CM the best defensive team in the league allowing their opponents to score only 65 points in eight games. Coach Cancro looks forward to as competitive and successful season next year, as this one has proved to be. VOLLEYBALL - With twenty athletes carrying the varsity and junior varsity teams through tough winter weather, the teams posted 6 and 3 and 4 and 5 records, respectively. The varsity's strong win over Weedsport proved to be the deciding factor in their improvement of last year's record. Both squads are looking forward to a very challenging season in the 1982 school year. GIRLS BASKETBALL - Both teams showed promise this year as they improved last year's records im- mensely. Considering that both squads were young and inexperienced their records were impressive with a 5 and 5 varsity record and a 4 and 5 j.v. record. Since only one varsity player graduates this year, the Cato girls basketball teams can look forward to an even more successful season in the 1982-83 school year, than the one just past. BASKETBALL - This year's basketball sqauds finished impressively in their league with the varsity second only to Hannibal and the junior varsity first in their league with a 13 and 2 record. Even though Cato is losing most of its varsity squad at graduation, an exceptional j.v. team will provide all the necessary factors for another winning varsity season. WRESTLING - Again this year the varsity matmen posted a championship year with a 13 and O record. With a continuing winning streak of 32 wins, Cato won easily at the Trumansburg, Cazenovia, and OHSL south tournaments.
