To produce articulate Catholic leaders is the aim of the Duns Scotus Forensic
Society. Hours of practice and research yield fruits of success in the form of medals
and certificates obtained in tournaments sponsored by both the Baltimore and
National Catholic Forensic leagues. Special tournaments at Johns Hopkins, George-
town, and Fordham universities also challenge speakers.
The principles of debate provide not only opportunities for logical presentation
of ideas but also for proposing solutions to national and international problems.
Quick thinking, poise and self confidence result from practice in the skills of
original oratory, declamation, and extemporaneous speech. Constructive criticism
of gestures and delivery benefits both the giver and the receiver. Under the direc-
tion of Sister Mary Franciline and Sister John Anthony, Duns Scotans find in speech
numerous occasions to fulfill their goal and to mature into thinking Catholic women.
Defending her views in a practice debate senior forensic mem-
ber Helen Pryor makes an "experienced" impression on her
iunior opponents, Julia Anzulewicz and Mary Ann Silver. Watch-
ing approvingly is HeIen's dependable partner, Carol Selway.
To improve voice modulation the microphone, essential to pub-
lic speaking, is put into action. Nancy Carre delivers her speech
as Therese Craig records it for analyzation. Before proceeding
to take critical notes, Mary Klingelhofer encourages Nancy withf
a smile. I

Spanish troubadours, according to an ancient tradition, transport
the Nativity figurines to the crib in the first floor alcove. The pro-
cession symbolizes the nine day search of Mary and Joseph for
room in a posada or small inn. Streaming through the corridors
the chanters, through song, beg all to accept the Saviour into
their own "posada."
