» Today, everyone is reading about space flights. The possibility is as exciting to us moderns as the water-route to the Indies was to Columbus. In a flight to the outer realms of space, the Staff of the 1953 TROUBADOUR has seen an analogy to the educational program of the Catholic High School of Baltimore. Actually, Interstellar Voyages have been going on at TCHS since the school opened in 1939. To three great bodies flights have been made, are being made, by each faculty member, student, graduate . . . Thinking of ourselves as astronauts, are we not making flights from the material world of brick and stone up into the mysterious, lovely, and challeng- ing realms of the spiritual, the social, and the intellectual? The buzzing labs and classrooms, the cheering gym, the applauding auditorium, the milling hallways, the sun-lit campus, the quiet chapel . . . all are runways for the take-off. Only the single individual who dares the flight can tell how pure, how breathless is the experience. Each of us must man her own space ship. Daily, our faculty plots our flights to the Worlds of Goodness, Beauty, Truth. In the measure in which each of us has participated in Catholic High's educa- tional program, in that measure have we flown out to these worlds that beckon luminously before us. On this conception we have interpreted the school year of 1952 and 1953 and have so recorded it in this annual. Follow with us, then, the record of Interstellar Flight at TCHS. Recall your posi- tion in the flight ship. Know that new worlds lie yet before the inquiring, soaring spirit of your beloved Alma Mater.
