Achieving the status of juniors, 294 TCHS students found themselves suddenly plunged into a new orbit of learning unlike the l»sic under- graduate courses. In the Latin-Science group (Section IB), juniors studied Latin, French I, American Literature. Algebra II, chemistry, journalism or personal typing. Modem Classicals (Section 2B) vary in that they drop Latin. Com- mercial with POD (Sections 3B, 4B) included religion, stenography. typewriting. English; Com- mercial with Spanish (Sections 5B, 6B) elected csfanol instead of a social science. General Busi- ness (Section 7B) stressed Business English, Business Mathematics, and American Literature. A representative and associate were elected from each section and this year for the first time, officers wore indicatory insignia. All class officers met on the second Monday of each month with Sr. Zacharia to discuss major student policies. The first junior high-light was the reception of school rings on Decemlxr 14. TCHS basketl all teams were studded with juniors, Muriel Ilimpler captaining the varsity. Veronica Dulaney. Carolyn Rebbert, and Dorothy Hebler captured leads in the Operetta; Helen Lorenz was first violinist in the Orchestra. After the January exams, almost forty juniors made reservations for the April 4 Retreat at the Fran- ciscan Motherhouse, Glen Riddle. Pennsylvania. Junior-Senior Day. May 12. found Sr. Irmalita and junior reps engineering a talent show for the seniors; the Junior Prom spotlighted May 16. Poets were in evidence in the class of 1953 for contributions of Phyllis Savarese, Jean Meckel. Helen Sushinsky, Nonna Sopko, Geraldine Popp. Florence Kirby, Joan Kotmair, I -oretta Grogan, Agnes French, Joan Fitch, Shirley dejoy, Mary Dobrochowska were accepted for publication by the National Poetry Association. Jolly Juniors had a glorious time at Gwynn Oaks on May 27. Seventeen members of this class finished with honor ratings and were exempted from final exams June 2, 3, and 4. niowski, P. Sackctt, D.
