Four pillars pointing heavenward are four sturdy symbols of four treasured years of life. Four aims stood out among the many objectives which cul- minated like concurrent lines in one great effort to form of ourselves true and perfect Christians—citizens of time and eternity. Four years based on four pillars representing four aims—here is their story in the 1947 Troubadour.

Troubadour of God” Troubadour of God was a favorite name applied to St. Francis of Assisi, patron of the faculty and the school, and the one to whom this 1947 yearbook is dedicated. Pointing upward, he indicates our way to heaven as we school ourselves in our four- fold aims of knowledge, virtue, moral fibre, and sportsmanship. Like the pillars about which the theme of our book is built, he holds the cross before us to remind us that we must be Christ-like Chris- tians. The life of St. Francis is a fascinating one. While still in his teens, he realized the emptiness of a life- devoted to pleasure alone. Forsaking a life of luxury, he went about instructing the people of Umbria in true knowledge, helping the sick, and encouraging the down-trodden in such a light-hearted, vivacious fashion that he was called Nature’s Troubadour. Five seniors who admire St. Francis as he stands sculptured in the auditorium lobby are Janet Mc- Clure, Margaret Trenkamp, Monica Skalinski, Shirley Griffith, and Dolores Kaiser. 4
