CHARLES 1912-1913 First Superintendent of Schools Father Charles, as first Superintendent of Schools, laid begin- nings to the centralization of the organization of the diocesan school system. He systematically vistited every school in the diocese, issued the first reports, reorganized the teaching of re- ligion in the schools and laid the foundations of a sound Dioce- san school system. U ,H 4 1 -fe Ee emma fi THE REVEREND JOSEPH A. DUNNEY 1913-1927 Second Superintendent of Schools This priestly scholar held the oflice of Superintendent for fif- teen years. During this time he furthered the process of organ- ization. knitting the diocesan schools into a closer unit. During Father Dunnefs administration. Diocesan examinations were born. Community Supervisors visited schools and supervised classes. Health examination and services began on an organized basis, and the Dolphin System of religious teaching for all the grades was basically adopted. Due to his keeness and awareness of current needs, a commercial department was established. This department, now one of the largest in the state, has made a definite contribution to the academic standing of C. A. and has enabled many of its graduates to secure excellent positions. He placed many of us in Kindergarten on our first day of school and then watched us grow up. He knows us better than we know ourselves. For his priestly efforts, he is loved, admired, and respected by all. The encouragement and advice Father gave us has never failed to help. Fatherls activities at C. A. included a large variety of tasks from assistant principalship with its many worriesfto an able financeer and leader in many parish projects. Father Black took an active interest in every activity for young and old. He was always ready and willing to lend cooperation and support. Fatherls guidance and leadership has won many worthwhile friends and admirers. .pt-f I THE REVEREND JAMES G. HART 194-4-1953 First Assistant Principal How happy we are to recall this beloved priestls name, for truly it brings to mind many pleasant hours in our school life. During his eight years as assistant principal, Fatherls direction of both stu- dent and alumni activities showed much wisdom, prudence, and tact. Blessed with a special divine gift of solving prob- lems for youth, many times we were helped over the hurdles by this zealous and kindhearted Alter Christus. His warm, friendly smile is missed at Cathedralg it brought joy to many a disturbed person. Our loss was His Excellencyls gain, where Father Hart has proved himself worthy of such confidential trust as Secretary to Bishop Scully, and Treasurer at Mater Christi. We are grateful to you, Father Hart, for your un- ceasing interest in the spiritual well-being of our school.
