ei-xbd THE RT. REVEREND JAMES P. O'CONNOR 1904-1912 Fifth Rector Monsignor O'Connor took a great interest in the children and schools of the Cathedral Parish. The present commodious convent of Elm St. stands as witness to his concern for the well-being of the teaching sisters of Cathedral Academy. It was he who promoted the departmental work and various courses in the high school curriculum at C.A. ' it li . fit' 2 - in 'Ao itil O.. ai. 1 THE REVEREND FRANCIS D. McGUIRE 1887-1904 Fourth Rector Father McGuire was noted for his patience, leniency, tolerance, and inexhaustible kindness. Et Omnes Unum Sim 1 r i HIS EXCELLENCY, THE MOST REVEREND EDMUND F. CIBBONS, D.D. 1919-1954 Sixth Bishop ofAlbany With such an inspired Shepherd and a magnanimous spiritual leaderw at the head of the Albany Diocese, there could only have been an era of great growth both spiritual and material. The expansion of the Diocese was graphically and photographically embedded in your heart and mind, Dear Bishop Gibbons, and thirty-five years and eight months as our Spiritual Leader you aimed to fulfill this desire. As a humble Bearer of Benediction to Cod's people, your name is venerated by old and young-by clergy, religious and laity alike. Now at Mater Christi Seminary, watching from behind the scenes, your heart truly consecrated to Cod and His Glory, must be filled with joy to know that every- where around Cathedral growth is apparent. From March 25, 1919 to November 10, 1954 you, Codis Chosen Apostle, kept an ever-watchful eye upon Our Alma Mater. During your apostolate many are the sons and daughters of C.A. that you have raised to God's Altar or presided at the taking of Vows of religious professions. Without your sanction, the third volume of OUR STORY, the present Cathedral Academy, would not have been accomplished. While you are enjoying a foretaste of Heaven, we the concluding group of Cathedralitesg together with our beloved Priests and Sisters, thank Your Excellency for the untold blessings you brought to C.A. It is the expressed wish of each of the 106 graduates of 1956 that Our Heavenly Father will reward you abundantly for your life of confidence in Cod and hlial devotion to His Blessed Mother. 15

THE RT. REVEREND JOSEPH A. DELANEY 1912-1933 Sixth Rector One of the most beloved people who played a major role in the story of Cathedral Academy was Rt. Reverend Joseph A. Delaney. As a result of his prayers, his efforts. and his dreams, the present Cathedral Academy building was erected. It was his pride and joy. Even dearer than the building were the children who filled the classrooms. To each he was a father, a friend, a confidant. His love was returned by all who warmed to his interest and friendliness. Monsignor was the soul of Cathedral Academy. It is his spirit that is her spirit, his devotion to Christ and the Church and to his people which is the expression of her loyalty. It was his devotedness, example, and holiness which were the spring from which flowed the numerous vocations to the priesthood and religious life that Cathedral can claim. It is to Monsignor Delaney that we owe Cathedral as we know it-both the building and the spirit. May he forever look down on us and guide us as he did always. 17 -IT 'II If ,-.Qt h xv F i' A ...- sgfgsgsgaiegega
