At weekly meetings the council discuss and promote the type of projects they feel will beneiit the students. Four represen- tatives from each class and the Student Federation officers make up the Student Council. Supervision of the cafeteria during the lunch period was a new project of the council this past year. This proved to be very successful. Among the many activi- ties carried out by the council were the sponsoring of Dear Season and the pep assemblies, buying and decorating the Christmas tree for the front entrance, ap- proving clubs, and making arrangements for all out-of-town games.

Pf0V1Cl1Leadersh1p for Government The most exciting thing that has ever happened to me was going to Switzerland at Catalina's American Field Service stu- dentf, stated Edith Catlin, Student Fed- eration Corresponding secretary. Last summer she spent two months living with a Swiss family. Throughout the year she shared her experiences with the student body. As corresponding secretary Edith handled all of the mail for the Student Federation. A native Tucsonian, she enjoys sports such as swimming and water skiing. She is fond of music and is interested in people. In preparation for a career in engineer- ing, Edith plans to major in either science or mathematics when she goes to college. The major activities which she partici- pated in this last year included National Honor Society, Tri-Hi-Y, G.A.A., and the Tucson Youth Symphony. As Student Federation recording-sec- retary, Sarah Tunnell kept the Student Council minutes and records. This past year she was a member of the International Club, Girls' League, Tri- Hi-Y, Catalina Service Council, and was president of Art Honor Society. As an artist with a style of her own, she counts art as one of her hobbies. Modeling is another of her hobbies which she enjoyed as Sunshine model. Coming to Tucson from Salt Lake City when she was very young, Sarah has been able to take advantage of her swimming interest with the Tucson's warm weather. Attending two years at Stephens Col- lege and then two years at the University of Arizona are included in part of her future plans. She then wants to go to the Episcopal Siminary at Berkeley, Cali- fornia to obtain a Master's Degree in Episcopal Education with hopes of being a missionary in the Far East.

49. f W Q n............,.,,..., 0 er, ick Student Court Handles Disciplinary Problems The Student Court handles Catalina's 4 minor disciplinary problems. There are many offenses some of which are not having a hall pass or causing a commotion in the halls. This year the cafeteria moni- tors, appointed by Student Council, worked closely with the Court. These monitors were in charge of referring stu- dents to the Court for offenses committed during the lunch hours. The most com- mon offenses were those such as leaving trash, using the wrong doors, and cutting into the lunch line. Adviser After a student is summoned to court, he is tried and sentenced. The severity of the offense and the attitude of the de- fendant both have an effect on the seri- ousness of the sentence. A member of Student Court for four years, Darlene James was elected chief justice by the other members. The jus- tices for this year were J arel Hambenne and Betty Jean Pratt, seniors, Beth Hop- kins and Dick Badger, juniors, Barbie Whitaker and Larry Dent, sophomores, and Barbara Ewing and Bonie Underhill, freshmen. Tain Balfour served as recorder and Bob Jacobs as bailiff. They were elected by the Court and approved by Student Council. Kenneth Jaeger was the adviser.
