Peter and Edith Participate in American Field Service Peter Althaus, Catalinais exchange student hails from Bern, Switzerland. Peter, who resided with the Russell Hastings family, became an active member of the student body. He par- ticipated in speech and debate tournaments and was a member of the International Club. German, French, and English Literature are favorite subjects of Peter. He also enjoys jazz. Skiing and hand- ball are favorite sports of his. A career in nuclear physics, stemming from Peter's interest in math and physical science, is planned by thisASwiss boy. While there she lived with the Robert Kamer family in Bienne CBielJ. Her family, which included Mr. and Mrs. Kamer, Trixly, and Amin, took her on trips to many parts of Switzerland. During the summer she participated in many activities with her brother and sister. She found life with her family to be very informal. While in Switzer- land she spoke Swiss-German at home and occasionally English with her teenage friends. It was held at the U of A. Track was the sport of this month. The AA track meet was held on May 7, the State Track meet on May 14, and the meet with North High on May 20. Excitement among graduating seniors began to grow until all of the classes were looking forward anxiously to the coming vacation and the end of the school year. June brought a mixture of the excite- ment of graduating seniors, the flurry to study for final exams of all kinds, and the heat of summer. On June 3, the annual signing party was held. Baccalaureate was held on June 5, and seniors graduated on June 10. 257
