He also took part in the 1959 World Scout Jamboree which took him to many parts of the world includ- ing Japan, India, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, and Iceland. In his senior year Jim was sports editor of the Torch and a member of student council. His future plans include attending college and majoring in law. The most exciting thing that has happened to me, states EDITH CATLIN, was repre- senting CHS in Switzerland. Edith had been an active member of GAA, International Club, NHS, and band. She had served as the junior president of Tri-Hi-Y, Junior Advisory Board, and student body corresponding secretary. Edith hopes to attend Rice Institute in Houston, Texas, and major in science and math. , fy , , ,Wwwy fm, X X IW' I if 'W . ,f , 4, STEVE PHILLIPS, often called Tinker, plans to major in engineering at the U. of A. This redheaded senior is interested in music, chemistry, and radio. Steve traveled all over the United States, but this took place when he was three years old. He was vice-president of the CHS band and a member of NHS. Steve spends his spare time playing the saxophone and working with radios. He is a member of the Old Pueblo Radio Club and is Radio HAM WZCKB. HAROLD RASP, commonly known as Weasel, was born in Elmira, New York. He has toured most of the United States. Among his school activities were Student Federation Representative, Debating Team, and Rifle Club. 25 Seniors Maintain Top Standards This group of students, consisting of twenty-five of the graduating seniors, has greatly' excelled scholastically. They have managed to maintain an outstanding grade average throughout all of their four years in high school. They have served the school in a great number of ways. All of them have participated, either as a member or an officer, in extracurricular activities. Quite a number have traveled in both the United States and Europe. Some of them have been placed in ad- vanced classes, and they still have man- aged to maintain their high standards. All of them are planning to attend college and to become professional men and women: teachers, doctors, and law- yers, just to name a few. They have all planned this program from their freshman year and have had the perserverance to continue with it. They should be highly commended for their records and line work. MARGARET HAGAN'S activities included A Cappella Choir, National Honor Society, Tri-Hi-Y, Bi-Chem-Phy, and the Junior Ad- visory Board. She also participated in several science fairs and was the Betty Crocker Home Economics Contest winner for Catalina. She plans to attend Stanford University and major in French and Pre-med. Q!! 5 yri. ,N-W 5, .5 .jf Scholarly, versatile senior, CONNIE Mc- MILLAN is proof that scholarship and fun do mix. Connie participated in many activities throughout high school: Debate, Rifle Team, the Junior Advisory Board, the Ski-Club, and a delegate to Girls' State. Born in Detroit, Connie lived in Fresnillo, Mexico. She also traveled to Washington, D.C., as a contestant in the Voice of Democracy Contest. This sixteen-year old senior advocates that her most exciting experience was meeting Vice- President Nixon and Sam Rayburn while visit- ing Washington, D.C. Student federation vice president, JUDY ALLEN had many activities including Girls League, CHS correspondent to the Arizona Daily Star, and the girls' tennis team. She held the office of freshman class secretary, sopho- more and junior councilman, sophomore presi- dent of GAA, and sergeant-at-arms of Tri-Hi- Y. She enjoys playing the guitar and collecting progressive jazz records. She plans to enter the College of Education at the U. of A. She was secretary of National Honor Society, president of the Junior Red Cross, a member of Tri-Hi- Y, A Cappella Choir, Ensemble, and Interna- tional Club. Traveling to Great Britain and receiving the Elks' Award will always be her memorable events. Music and history are Julie's favorite subjects. Her future plans in- clude attending college. Tall, red-headed STEVE YOUNG has been through Germany, England, Portugal, France, Holland, Canada, and Sweden with the Tucson Boys' Chorus. His main interests are in cars and photography. Steve was an Ensemble solo- ist several times this year. His activities in- cluded Hi-Y, NHS, Honor Service Society, Choir Council, and Boys' State. He was in advanced English and Chemistry classes. Winning the National Science Foundation Award gave SHERRY BARNEY a scholarship to the University of Kansas last summer to study math. Her favorite classes are math and French. She has made several hunting trips with her father which have taken her to Mexico. She lists her main interests as ranching and hunting. Sherry also enjoys jazz and motorcycles. Col- lege is included in her future plans. Grand Canyon, Arizona, was the birthplace of TEE COOK, CHS letterman. Tee has lived at many of the National Monuments in Ari- zona. His school activities included vice-presi- dent of NHS, freshman class president, secre- tary of the Student Body, and the Lettermans' club. His hobbies range from sports to leather- work.
