The Feb- ruary concert and the pops concert, held in the patio during May, were the other scheduled concerts. Members of the orchestra participated in the Fine Arts Festival in April and the operetta, Bells Are Ringing, presented by Catalina's Fine Arts Department. In February the orches- tra traveled to Phoenix where they gave concerts at Scottsdale and Arcadia High Schools. After spending the night in Scottsdale, the orchestra attended a re- hearsal of the Phoenix Youth Symphony and toured the campus of Arizona State University. Several of the orchestra members re- ceived the honor of playing in the All- State Orchestra, held in Tucson. Four members, Mary McCurdy, Lee Cooper, Jo Ann Wheply, and Eunette McCall, comprised the string quartet. This musi- cal group received recognition at an art festival, held in March at the University of Arizona. The quartet furnished the music at this event. Orchestra members got a taste of vari- ous types of music ranging from classical, to modern, to popular. Although most of the members of the orchestra will not go into music as professionals, they will en- joy the experience and training they re- ceived in high school for the rest of their lives. f , WM Varied glimpses of the orchestra in rehearsal are pictured above.

Hard Work and Preparation Go into Beffs Are Rz'f2gz'ng After months of hard work and prep- aration, the A Cappella Choir, with the combined efforts of the other music groups, presented their annual operetta, Bells Are Ringing. Among their other presentations were the Christmas pro- gram, the Schubert mass in G Major, a music festival, on April 22, and a spring patio concert. Members of the A Cappella choir are chosen from the Boys Glee Club and the Girls Chorus. This year eight students were chosen to represent Catalina at the All-State Choral Clinic held at the University of Arizona on March 19. f n VW t Harold Porter, Director This year, for the first time, auditions were held in order to select the members of the Ensemble. They are chosen from those students enrolled in the A Capella Chorus. Becoming a member of the En- semble is an achievement that any A Capella Chorus member can be proud of. The Ensemble appeared in a concert on October 27, the Christmas program, a Music Festival held on April 22, the Spring Patio concert, and the Schubert Mass in G major. The Schubert Mass, held on February 4, was given with the Rincon High School A Capella Chorus.
