GAA Open to Girls Interested in Sports The Girls Athletic Association, spon- sored by Miss Hines, is open to all girls interested in sports and athletic events. It's purpose is to promote fun and recre- ation in the Held of girls sports. The skills that are learned in the regular physical education classes are played in GAA. Many team and individual sports are played. This organization is actually an outgrowth of the P. E. program for girls who want to get further enjoyment out of sports. . Catalina's GAA participated ,in sports days with other schools, competing in such sports as hockey, archery, and basketball. Chosen Catalina's Girls Athletic Association chose from its membership Dawn Hol- linger, a senior, as their Girl of the Year. Dawn is considered by her physical edu- cation teachers to be highly skilled in the many sports activities she has par- ticipated in during the past four years. She captained a very successful volleyball team in both her junior and senior years. The last two years found Dawn on the school's all-star basketball team. Other sports she has included into her after school time are, hockey, bowling, and softball. During this year she has served as the secretary-treasurer of GAA.
