Six returning lettermen--Ray Amold, Steve Hayden, Jack Holman, John Holmes, Larry Mitchell, and Ike Rhodes-formed the nucleus of Catalina's defending state champion gymnatics team. Not counting on equal- ling last year's great 9-1 won-lost record, Coach Ritz Rittenhouse termed this season as one of rebuilding. All-around performer on the sixteen member squad was junior, Ray Arnold. Ray, who was state champion on the trampoline in 1959, also competes in the other gymnastics events of free exercise, rope climb, tumbling, high bar, parallel bars, flying rings, still rings, side horse, and long horse. Other standouts on the squad were senior Bob Brown doing the rope climb and senior Jack Holman on the side horse and in free exercise. 158 March 4 Catalina March 15 Catalina March 18 Catalina March 25 Catalina April l Catalina April 8 Catalina Coach Ritz Rittenhouse 1960 Gymnastics Schedule vs. Rincon vs. Tucson vs. Pueblo vs. Phoenix Union vs. Washington vs. Central April I3 Catalina vs. Pueblo April 19 Catalina vs. Tucson A 'l 22 pri Catalina vs. Rincon April 29 Catalina vs. Phoenix Union May 13 State Tournament

The 1959-60 edition of the Trojan wrestling squad compiled the best season in its history. The team fin- ished its dual meet season with a record of six wins and three losses. In addition, the grapplers placed seventh in the state tournament. Highlights of the year included an opening win over Tucson and subsequent victories over Glendale and Yuma. Previous to this season, C'atalina had never defeated these teams in wrestling competition. The victory over Yuma was probably the most meaningful because a few weeks later the Criminals took second place in the state tournament behind powerful Phoenix Union. The Blue and White placed four men in state tour- nament competition: Dave Rowe, fourth, at 112, Frank Lukus, fourth, at 127, Bill Tucker, third, at 145, and 160 Jim Dainty, third, at 175. Five Catalina matmen were undefeated during the regular season. They were Willie Campos, Jim Dainty, Dennis Eddy, Frank Lukus, and Jeff Shofner, Willie Campos was the hard-luck man of the squad. After a dislocated elbow had prevented him from competing the previous season, successive shoul- der dislocations sidelined him a good portion of this year. In the semi-final match of the regional trials he was leading his Yuma opponent by a 6-1 score when his shoulder was dislocated again. This mishap made it necessary for him to withdraw from the tournament. Graduating seniors this year are Jim Dainty, Dave Murpy, Dave Rowe, Jeff Shofner, and Bill Tucker. They leave behind a promising crop of undergraduates eager to carry on the team's tradition.
