Led by the 22 point scoring of Dan Breck, the Trojans took an easy 79-59 win over the St. Maryis Knights. This made it six in a row for Catalina. 1.2-Amphi 63, Catalina 52. The Amphi Panthers stunned the Trojans by taking advantage of poor Catalina shooting and defense to hand the Trojans a 63-52 defeat. 13-Catalina 65, Sunnyside 49. A 25 point third quarter put the Trojans in front to stay after a nip and tuck first half. Buddy Doolen led the Trojans with 12 points. 19-Rincon 52, Catalina 49. Before a record crowd of 3000 screaming fans, the Rincon Rang- ers once again came from behind in the fourth quarter to hand the Trojans a 52-49 defeat and throw the AA4 race into a lirst place tie. The Trojans, playing without the full services of Forward Buddy Doolen, led until the final minutes of the game. Dan Breck put on one of his best performances of the year, netting 21 points to lead the Trojans. 25--STATE TOURNAMENT, Phoenix Central 54, Catalina 53. A free throw by Gary Noble of Central with 4 seconds left in the game gave the Bobcats a close 54-53 win over the Trojans. Buddy Doolen led the Trojans with 18 points. Feb. 15-Rincon 52, Catalina 45. A fired up Rincon team proved to be too much for the Trojans to handle as the Rangers stormed from behind in the final quarter to overpower Catalina 52-45. Dan Breck led the Trojans with 16 points. 16-Catalina 52, West Phoenix 43. The Trojans, led by Dan Breck's 12 points, overpowered the West High Thunderbirds 52-43 in a game at C.H.S. Former Trojan Bill Johnson managed to score two points for the Thunderbirds. 22-Catalina 60, Salpointe 48. The Trojans took an easy 60-48 win over the Salpointe Lancers to up their season record to 9-3. Dan Breck led all scorers with 17 points. 23-Catalina 78, Mesa 64. Dan Breck pumped in 19 markers to lead the Trojans to a 78-64 win over the Mesa Jackrabbits. 29-Catalina 58, Pueblo 42. The Pueblo Warriors were defeated by the Trojans for the second time 58-42. Buddy Doolen led Catalina with 15 points. 5-Catalina 60, Tucson 44. Led by Steve Miles with 17 points, the Trojans took a surprisingly easy win over the Tucson High Badgers 60-44. The Trojans had a 47-34 lead at the end of 3 quarters and the Badgers failed to make a come- back. The win was the biggest ever for the Trojans over Tucson and gave them a 6-3 edge in the series. Rincon .,....,,,,.. 35 142 The 1959-60 Trojan Junior Varsity racked up a season total of 11 wins, 7 losses. They also had a city record of 5-6. Coached by Mr. Galen Kintner, the Junior Trojans started off strongly, but fell off near the end. Opening with a 40-28 win over Salpointe, the Trojans dropped their next game to Pueblo 29-39. Carl Hayden became the Trojans, second victim as they swept past the Falcons 49-23. Tucson High handed the Junior Trojans a 42-33 setback. Journeying to Phoenix, the J ayvees were overcome by Phoenix Union when four men fouled out late in the game. The Trojans won the next three, over Nogales 51-41, Amphi 56-38 and South Mountain 60-30. After playing the Rincon Deputies to an 18-18 halftime tie, the Trojans stif- fened their defense and allowed Rincon only 5 points the entire second half, and went on to win 39-23. West Phoenix became the Sth straight Trojan victim by a 59-57 score. Salpointe ended the Trojan win streak, toppling them 44-39. The Trojans bounced back to defeat Mesa 54-38, but dropped the next two to Pueblo 45-54 and to Tucson 40-53. The Trojans recovered and won the next three, over St. Marys, 54-46. Amphi 66-52 and Sunnyside 60,26. In the season finale, lack of organization and coach Kintner led to the Trojans downfall as they fell to Rincon 31-35.
