Enthusiastic spirit held up even though the team met many defeats. A red-hot squad opened the season against Salpoint, but were cooled down fast and had to work uphill for the rest of the season. Coach Ken Pear- son marked a lack of experience and the roughest sched- ule in our history as the causes for the lack of victories. TROJANS CRUSH SALPOINTE, 31-T3 A hard-driving Catalina team opened the '57 season with a 31-T3 victory over Salpointe's Lancers. Houston Gilbert piloted the trojans putting to work fullback Floyd Watson and Halfback Jim Mansfield. Although the Lan- cers countered with a sparkling passing attack, it was not enough to overcome the spirited Catalina ground game.
