240 Power Tools Boost Per ormance Alan Benson prepares to leave class after wood shop. Industrial Arts classes at Castro Valley encompassed the fields of carpentry, me- chanics, electronics, land de- sign, forestry, art metals and mechnical drawing. Boys Cand an occasional girly taking these courses learned to han- dle tools, work with metals and wood, tend plants, worked on automobiles and electronic devices and made architec- tural drawings. Far from be- ing easy courses, students learned how to do math prob- lems involving internal com- bustion engines, e l e c t r i c al output, geometry and work- ing-parts problems. Once again this year Spartan girls learned the basic skills of home arts in Castro Va11ey's home- making classes. In these classes girls were taught how to cook, sew, ad- minister elementary first aid, budget money, and care for children.
