232 Not content with only classroom instruc- tion, teachers in Castro Valley's Language Arts Department make use of field trips to supplement their students' knowledge of their courses. Senior Lit. classes made two field trips this year: one to Berkeley to see the Japanese film Chushingura, the other to the Chabot Theatre to- see Richard Burton's Hamlet. Mr. Andersonfs Spanish classes made an expedition to Sonoma where they visited Gen. Vallejo's home and Mission San Francisco Solano. This past year Language Arts made an attempt to appeal to everybody's tastes. 2 H 9 The necessity for strong school government causes Tom Jorde to inform his Public Speaking class of this need. Enthusiastic Spanish students glue their eyes to the movie screen, which gives a colorful tour of Spain. Students prepare to take notes as Mr. Fenneman previews the lecture on American Literature. Sophomores write their first descriptive essay evaluating a short story in English.
