During the month of June, over 1100 students from 550 high schools gathered near Sacramento for the Boys and Girls State Convention. During the one-week meetings, the delegates formed mock city, county and state governments and for one day took their places in the offices of the Assembly, Senate, Supreme Court, and Governor's Office. Castro Val1ey's representatives were Sandy Logan and Tom Jorde. Sandy, a citizen of the mythical city of Fremont, ran for a county clerk, but was defeated. Tom Jorde ran for Boys State Governor, but lost in a close contest. Tom did, however, serve in the governor's cabinet.
