174 I 1 ts, .F . ,qs M . A i - 5 Q, fc' lk A BROOKS MCBURNEY Serving as the school's second Stu- dent Assembly Chairman, Brooks McBurney established many policies. As chairman of the Ways a.nd Means com- mittee Brooks gained the experience that made him capable of carrying out the duties of this office. He had also parti- cipated as a sophomore class represent- ative. This year in addition to chairman he served on Executive Council, Finance Council, and Nominations and Elections. Student Assembl ams In its second year as a functioning part of Castro Valley's student government, Student Assembly fulfilled all its obligations as a legislative body. Under Fall Chair- man Brooks McBurney and Spring Chairman Stephen Abbors, Student Assembly did much to give Spartans a voice in their school's policies. The delegates, elected by members of their social studies classes, met once every week to discuss legislation that came before the Assembly and heard reports from Executive Council. Among the most important affairs handled by Student Assembly were the clean-up in November tin association with Block CV and Executive Councily and the development of a system that appropriated student body funds to the four classes according to the percentage of students that had student body stickers. But aside from its school service, Student Assembly's greatest contribution to the student body was that it gave individuals a larger voice in school politics. vi FRONT ROW: J. Curtiss, L. Vick, K.
