L. , Castro Valley's Frosh-Soph basket- ball team finished in a second- place tie with Tennyson. Coached by Mr. Oscar Sakamoto, the Spartanbabes compiled a record of 11 Wins and 5 losses in league com- petition and an eleven-and- seven record over-all. Out- standing players on the team were Freshman Gary Bengard, who led the team in rebounding, and Sophomore guard Larry Silva, the team's leading scorer with an average of 15.2 points per game. Coached by Mr. Robert Haywood, the Varsity and J.V. teams had a combined record of 19 wins and one loss, 15-0 in league competition. Leading the varsity were Neil Rasmussen who pinned six straight opponents and Jim Duperroir who pinned four. By taking first in the league they advanced to the North Coast Section where the Spartan grapplers won for the second year in a row. From there six Spartan wrestlers went on to the North Coast Invitational Tournament in Modesto where George Sherman C138 poundsjvtook third in his class and Neil Rasmussen and Mike Todd eachkutooft fourth. By combining long hours of practice with the individual strength and skill of team members, wrestlers of Q,V,'s varsity and J,V+. teams gave this school a record of wins second to none in thesBay Are 11 ,,,,gx .
