G ary Bengard jumps high in the league opener. Coach Oscar Sakamoto contemplates game strategy. One of the smallest teams in the H. A. A. L. , Castro Valley's Frosh-Soph basket- ball team finished in a second- place tie with Tennyson. Coached by Mr. Oscar Sakamoto, the Spartanbabes compiled a record of 11 Wins and 5 losses in league com- petition and an eleven-and- seven record over-all. Out- standing players on the team were Freshman Gary Bengard, who led the team in rebounding, and Sophomore guard Larry Silva, the team's leading scorer with an average of 15.2 points per game.
