Castvo Valley ,students interested in any of the three 'departments of the Fine Arts Area are offered many courses from which to choose. The art department has a wide range of levels beginning with elements of design, vocabulary of art, and theory of color in the first year and on into techniques of pencil, ink, chalk, water color, poster- paint, sign painting, poster layout, silk screen painting, lettering and in their final year personal-projects, research, and creative drawing. Other art courses include crafts, sculpture and photography--a course on camera technique and the proper use of materials, Offered for the first time was the new course Survey of the Arts, which is a review of art in all its forms from ancient times to the present. In the musical depart- ment interests in both vocal and instrumental are satisfied., The vocal section offers courses from elementary to advanced training depending upon the student's skill and know- ledge of music. Girls' Glee and Mixed Choir teach sight reading and provide ear training while A Cappella and its selected group, the Madrigals, go into more advanced choir techniques for those with previous experi- ence. Complimenting the vocal music division, the instrumental department con- sists of both beginning and advanced band and orchestra. Working with the musical section of the fine arts area, the drama department also offers beginning as well as advanced drama and also offers stagecraft.
