SHERWOOD POPPE EDWIN SUNNERGREN O Math and Science Busy preparing their project in physics are Tom McCloud and Dave Edwards. The courses of Geometry, Al- gebra, and Trigonometry are an im- portant part of the math-science curriculum. These ancient subjects have always held a certain fasci- nation and challenge for man. Stu- dents taking such courses must prove the proven, solve the solved, and discover the discovered in order to understand and develop their own mathematical reasoning and logic. The ability to reason can be applied to many other aspects of life be- sides that of math, which makes such courses of value to even those who do not wish to continue study in the subject. Physics, another course at Castro Valley, is the bridge between math and science and is made up of both. The student learns about the forces of nature, air, and water, light, heat, sound, electricity, and the laws of gases, motion, gravity, and time. While math and science show Q pro- cesses are accomplished, Physics tells why. Biology, the science of life, gives students an opportunity to study heredity, botany, which is the study of plants, Zoology, includ- ing origin, development and dis- tribution of animals, and physio- logy, the study of the human body. lt is through chemistry that stu- dents learn the make-up of matter in all its forms -- using their mathematical knowledge in writing and balancing chemical reactions. Students taking math-science courses find the work difficult but often rewarding. Mr. Tubbs explains the finer points of dissection to Rick Landon.
