Boisvert. L. Vick. Representing the' school in song Castro Valley's A'Cappella and Mad- rigals do a first rate job. Under the direction of Mrs. Whayne, ACappel- la's presentation of the Broadway musical Bye Bye Birdie, and parti- cipation in the Christmas program and P.T.A, meetings took up most of their time. Also part of their activities was their outstanding performance in the Northern California Music Festival. Most often having previous singing experience, members expose Castro Valley students to the finest choral music, representing all periods in musical history. An additional group made up of those with exceptional talent for music make up the honor society for song--the Madrigals. After tryouts, only four persons from each section of the choir are chosen. Usu- ally singing without accompaniment, they also had a busy, schedule, which included performances at P.T.A. meet- ings, assemblies, and at the Shakespearian F e s ti v al, Christmas caroling at local Bay Area hospitals, and also competing at the Northern California Music Festival. 256 ROW TWO: V. 258 Doug Quick, as Officer Lonigan, brings in the wreck, Joe Rooney, and in- terru ts Ruth's and Eileen's dinner partyl. Members of cast on stage are: Made ine Martin, Mike Moschetti, Betty Jo nson, Richard Kohl, Joe Rooney, and Doug Quick. QQ ' ' 9? Ruth, Played by Madaline Martin in her Gum Girl costume, is visited by her curious father, Sister Elleen Makes a Hit Two small town girls move into, a Greenwich Village Basement Apartment, and into the life of men and adventure, found only in New York City. This was the story that formed the basis of the broadway play My Sister Eileen and from which Castro Valley's fine arts area presented this year's successful spring play. The main cast included Betty Johnson, portraying Eileen Sherwood, the very popular model and actress to beg Madeline Martin as Ruth, her sister who wants to be a writerg Mr. Appopolous, John O'Leary the girls' fast talking landlord, and Joe Rooney as the Wreck and ex-football player who lives above the girls. Under the di- rection of MVS- RMS-Sell, the play recreates the adventures and difficulties of city life which the young imaginative Eileen and her older, but far more rational sister, encounter. While trying to make a new start in the big world of opportunities, their lives turn into a massof confusion as they look for jobs in order to save themselves from near pov- erty. Others in the cast were Gail Graves as Helen, the Wreck's wifeg Nancy Alexander as Mrs. Wade, Helen's motherg and Mike Moschetti as Frank Lippencott, one of Eileen's many admirers. Jeff Guintini, Jim Gomes, Arnold Brown, and other members of the cast help with the play's scenery.
