Serving two definite purposes, that of educating students in the field of history and government and pro- viding a guidance program throughout high school, Castro Valley's Social Studies classes are of great importance. Through personal counseling,. students learn much about their scholastic capabilities and aptitudes and of the op- portunities that follow high school graduation, including college benefits and vocational opportunities. This know- ledge is then applied by each individual when signing up for other classes and preparing for the future. The course, a four year requirement, starts off with an orientation program acquainting Freshmen with school procedure and going into such subjects as study habits and person- ality problems. After a review of geography, students then begin World History, which is continued through the Sophomore Year with an additional unit on Drivers Edu- cation. The Junior year is spent on American History and the Senior, on understanding World Affairs and studying Family Living and U.S, Government.
