Neil Rasmussen gives his Tenny- A son opponent a rough going over at ' the H.A.A.L. Tournament. Taking first in H.A.A.L. competition, Castro Valley's Varsity Wrestling Team showed great strength against some of the toughest teams in the Bay Area. Although all competition was rough, the match that stood out the most in the opinion of Coach Mr. Haywood was the meet held with Fremont of Oakland. Unlike most other sports, the championship depends upon the individual strength and skill of each wrestler in winning his match and then combining these matches into a team score. Some of the outstanding members of the team and their standings in the H.A.A.L. tournament ac- cording to their weight classes were Dennis Tye, second placegMike Meyers, firstg Jerry Gaya, fourthg Neil Rasmussen, thirdg John Rottmar, firstg and Mike Todd, first. These place Winners also went to the North Coast Invitational Meet at which John Rottmar placed first in the 175 weight class and Mike Meyer took a second in the 123 weight class. The outstanding wrestlers of the season were Mike Meyer andJ01m Rottmgw, John Rottmar gets a near pin against his Arroyo opponent. Mike Meyer overcomes a Hayward man and pulls his op- ponent's arm up for the pin. F o 0 lrst In H.A.A. . Steve Conant moves his Hayward man into a difficult position. 233
