With a packed house of C.V. fans, the touchdown came when Terry Lvwe intercepted a pass and went twenty- yards to the Rebel ll yard line. From there they moved in to score in two plays and win the game. C.V. S.L. Net yards rushing . . 135 43 Net yards passing . . . 24 84 First downs rushing . 10 2 First downs passing . - 1 4 Net yards gained ........ 159. 127 San Lorenzo Allan Glasser is about to be brought down by two Rebel tacklers. Hard driving Mark Scanlon runs past two Mt. Eden men. A San Lorenzo man is brought down by two Spartan linemen. Mark Scanlon is tackled while Barry Cunningham comes to his aid. Two recovered Mt. Eden fumbles, a 38-yard pass, some fancy stepping by Mark Scanlon and hard-nosed defense led by Barry Cunningham, Leigh Gonveia and John Rottmar brought another victory to the Spartans. .Having defeated Mt. Eden with a score of 20-7 the C,V, football team would now enter into the game against Arroyo. C.V. Mt.E. Tennyson Rick Mahannah, bats down a pass against the Lancers. . if Tewfy Lowe, makes a run around the right side of the line as Barry Cunninglzam and Bob Kelloggcome Sunset Defeat rang through the minds of C. V. rooters as they slowly left the Spartan foot- ball field after the Castro Valley-Sunset game. The Spartan linemen fought hard, actually defeating the Falcons statistically, but their defense was not strong enough to prevent Sunset from gaining a 12-6 win. Losing their first game, though, was not to discourage them from fighting to other vic- tories. C.V. With only the slight lead of 3-O that being earned from a field goal in the first period, the Spartan linemen went into the second half of the Tennyson-Castro Valley game deter- mined to show who was best. Finding the Lancers tough, though, the defensive line had a big job ahead. The outcome was lO-O in favor of C.V, with the touchdown coming in the fourth quarter on a thirty-nine yard run by Allan Glasser. C.V. T. Teifify Lowe is brought down by an Arroyon A 7-7 tie was the outcome of the Castro Valley-Arroyo game. Discouraging as it was, the game proved to be even more important as it turned into the half game that prevented C.V. from tying for first place in the HAAL champ- ionship. Arroyo's seven points came as they took advantage of two 5 yard penalties against C.V. The only other scoring that took place was the tying touchdown made by Teifify Lowe after Rick Mahannah intercepted and Arroyan pass. C.V.AR. Net yards rushing . . . 123- 93 Net yards passing . . . . 40- 20 First downs rushing . . 8- 7 First downs passing . . 2- l Net yards gained . . . 163-113 3 4, ' ' The lines meet as the ball is snapped to John O'Lea1fgv. Although injuries prevailed, th e limp i n g Spartan team gave a mighty display of defensive power against the visiting Hornets. Still missing from the lineup were Tom Beck who was injured earlier in the year, and Allan Glasser who was forced to stay out because of an injury from the preceding game. Though the game was head- ed by many spectacular defensive and offensive plays the Hornets came through to win with two touchdowns, making the final score 14-0. C.V. Al.
