Caduceus Club All hoping to dedicate their lives to the medical profession, the members of Caduceus Club widen their knowledge of the field and its requirements and oppor- tunities as they gather together to share their common interest. By meeting as a group with the basic goal of someday helping those with physical needs, the members have taken their first practical steps. Along with broadening their knowledge and concepts of the profession by watching films, listening to guest speakers, and visiting places re- lated to the medical field--from community health centers to pri- vate offices--the Caduceus Club also finds time to take on possible community service projects. Drama Club also finds time each year to present a few one act plays anda play for the P.T.A. With the help of fac- ulty advisor, Miss Patterson, the members receive valuable experience in not only acting but in applying make-up and constructing props. The mem- bership is composed of stu- dents from grades nine through twelve who have an expressed interest in drama or the allied arts. Meetings spent preparing for the plays as well as putting on skits and pantomimes for further experience are enjoyed by all who attend. Future Teachers Association To have an intezfestfor teaching as a profession and a B average are the requirements for C.V.'s Future Teachers of America Club. Those with potential to teach are inspired and motivated to further their interests by the discussions and different excursions the club makes throughout the year. Along with visiting various elementary and junior high schools, this year's members attended the annual Ala- meda County Future Teachers Club Conference on the California State College campus at Hayward. From such excursions they develop a better understanding of what is entailed and what they must do in order to prepare for their future years as teachers of tomorrow. mt wth FRONTROW:J. Houseman, P. Through ability and healthy determination for achieving athletic excellence, the members of Block C.V. represent the boys of Castro Valley in the best possible Way. The members achieve the goal required for their admission to this organization by accumulating a certain number of points through competition in the varsity sports at Castro Valley. Once they have received their Blocks, however, they still must maintain certain standards of conduct in order to maintain their membership in this honor society. Besides sharing their common interest in sports, the boys also work together to keep order at football games and assemblies and are responsible for the boys rooting sections at football and basketball games. Band CouncH Providing a code of conduct, organizing band activities, keeping a scrapbook, and planning service projects for the IMPS Qlnstrumental Music Parents Societyp are only a few of the many services which the Band Council performs. This Council, consisting of ten members selected from the Castro Valley band and orchestra, is largely responsible for the smoothly run instrumental department. Contacting new freshmen interested in either the band or orchestra and answering their many questions is just another way in which this council helps C.V.H.S. by providing hardy welcomes for its incoming class- mates. 209
