Goals SPRING EXECUTIVE COUNCIL AND NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS COMMITTEE Since the establishment ofthe Student Assembly, which serves as the legislative government, the spring Executive Council could spend more of its time on executive duties. Having only to approve or reject bills brought before them, they could con- centrate more on their main job--that of leadership in student government. With the help of the Nominations and Elections Com- mittee, the counsel members' jobs were made even lighter as the committee took on the responsibility of providing materials and organizing student body elections. Meeting each week, they still had enough to keep them busy as they made plans for the many spring activities including the Grecian Festi- val, spring's equivalent to the Sound-Off Rally, and the organization of assemblies. 194 Foreign Countries I just love the people of Castro Valley and l had a fabulous time is Cynthia Manas's answer to how she liked her stay as this year's foreign exchange student to Castro Valley High. Participating in the American Field Service program of exchange students. Cynthia will never forget her many experiences and personal contacts with the American people. She comments, l shall miss everyone and wish to thank all for my wonderful stay. For although she naturally missed her own parents, two brothers and a sister, Cynthia will always remember with fondness her stay in Castro Valley and living with her adopted American family, the Arnold Berges. Coming from Santa Cruz, the capital of Laguna, and island of Luzon in the Philippines, Cynthia talked enthusiastically about her own country as well as America. Having already graduated from Pedro Guevara Memorial High School in '62 she plans to attend the University of the Philippines upon her return. The courses Cynthia took included Senior Physical Education, Spanish, American History, Public Speaking, Art, and American Government. Castro Valley students will miss the interesting con- versations they held with Cynthia as she asked such things as What's the deal with Mistletoe? As a warm and friendly person, Cynthia will be long remembered in the hearts of all Spartans. CYNTHIA MANAS Foreign Exchange Student Cynthia gives one of many speeches. With date Jeff Pezfenon and in her native cos- tume, Cynthia was an honored guest at the Junior Prom.
