Town News and Logos Staff Two writing groups active at Castro Valley are the Town News and Logos Staffs. The main job of the students of MV. Williams' Town News Staff is keeping local newspapers informed about the various activities on the Spartan campus -- a never ending task. Composed of those in beginning journalism who have shown a liking and talent for writing, the group prepares stories for such papers as the Oakland Tribune, San Leandro News, CV Leader, Daily Review, and the Morning News. Writing about school activities, such as student body elections, scholarships, sports and plays, the students gain their first real experience at writing for publication. Also involved in writing are those on the Logos Staff, Logos Editor Castro Valley's literary magazine. Short stories, poems, and essays supplied by creative Spartans go into its publication each year. BONNIE BELDEN EditOr-in- Chief News ls Printed Striving together as a tearn to put out the school newspaper, the Achean staff is asmoothly run organization. The staff, working basically independently, is headed by Bonnie Belden, Editor-in-Chief. Mr. Williams, advisor, allows the class to learn mainly from experience. Frantically meeting deadlines involves not only an efficient staff of reporters and editors, but business managers and a photographer. The C. V. students have much to be proud of in the quality newspaper they read every other week. MR. WILLIAMS Advisor Sandy Wells, Karen Steinbuch, and Bonnie Belden put in many SUE DEGLER hours on the Achean. Second Page Editor ' 1 1 i i . -+ ,gf 'Y A R I ..it f , .. -,.. 190 DENNIS McKENZIE Fall Student Body President One of Dennis' hobbies is playing the guitar. The Ruling Castro ValZey's Fall Student Body Presi- dent, Dennis McKenzie, left behind an admirable record in student government. Starting out early in school politics, as aFreshman interest- ed in student affairs, Dennis served as Fall Class Treasurer and Spring Class Vice-Presi- dent. Before his election to the office of Stu- dent Body President he had served twice before on Executive Council--once as Junior Class President and again when chosen Club Council Chairman. Dennis's main objective, during his term as Chief Executive, was the addition of a legislative branch to student government in the form of an Assembly. Busy as he was writing new constitutional provisions, Dennis also found time to help in the collection of money toward payment of the football lights. This hard work toward better student government will always be remembered as the most im- portant accomplishment of his term of office. Also to the credit of his administration, was the construction of a senior lawn and work of his Vice President, Larry Downs in improving assemblies and the Sound-Off Rally. Dennis addresses the student body at an assembly.
