King of the Belles In answer to the annual tradition ofchoosing a Spartan Sweetheart to reign as queen of sports, this year the girls of Castro Valley High had their op- portunity to name their ideal boy. Voting from among the eight nominees, Dennis McKenzie, . M i k e Vandeifby l, Don La1fmon1f,fJeffGuintini, Ron Robertson, Jeff Peifenon, and Steve Walde, as they entered the girl-ask-boy backward formal, the girls found that they had a difficult decision to make. With all ballots collected and counted the winner, Mike Vandeifbyl, was announced and crowned by the Sports Queen, Janice Bibeau. Choosen to reign as King of the Belles, Mike gained another credit to add to his many other colorful high school accomplishments. Not only had he served three years in executive council, including one time as class president, but he was also chairman of the Senior Lawn and an active three year member of Block C.V, as a varsity swimmer, Mike s certainly proved himself able to fill the girls' image of an ideal boy. A Dannelle Beifnaifds dances happily with the boy considered most ideal by Spartan girls. Chosen from seven other nominees, Mike Vandevbyl reigns for the year of 1964, as Castro Valley's first King of the Belles. The Junior Class dance turned out to be a huge suc- cess, and all who went had a good time. 173
