Iantn 1192 ibm lit SYMBOL of conquerlng Castlemont sp1r1t the axe cut deeply mto the patrxotxc chord of the student body th1s semester and produced the most 1mpress1ve eflicxent and successful pupll admzmstratxon 1n the h1story of the school A carefully planned and executed advert1s 1ng campalgn greatly alded by Cr1er publ1c1ty personal co operatlon of EX6Cut1Ve Board oPHcers w1th Presldent Ballment ass1sted by V1ce Pres1 dent Beasley and the dehberate promotlon of an enl1ghtened esprlt de corps ln the Castle machmery were the dehnxte pract1cal plans of the amateur pol1t1c1ans who were out to put Castlemont on the map Nothmg less than a complete patr1ot1c resurrectlon of consclous Castlemont sp1r1t swept through the rank and file of the student body brlnglng w1th lt an almost mlraculous revxval 1n the treasury department The budget was balanced 1n two weeks the pres1dent was ready to practlce h1s New Deal and the axe was after the O A L steak It pa1d to advertlse cleverly and br1ll1antly In order that personal frlendshlp and the acqulsltxon of new acquamtances mlght be promoted on the campus Commlssloner of Soclal Act1v1t1es Eleanor Bxckoff suggested Hello Day an exper1ment whlch outclassed every other noon event on the docket It was endorsed w1th such unammous Hello Day as a permanent calendar date Meanwhile the hand of the law was ever present to curb forgetful persons Seasonxng JL1St1CC wxth mercy the Control Board adopted a reasonable fr1endly att1tude toward offenders rather than the relentless bearmg of efhc1ency experts Although some 1nd1v1duals were penahzed nevertheless even the worst offenders were grateful to the Board for 1ts falrness and 1ts mterest 1n the personal welfare of those 1nd1cted for judgment Incldentally every outstandmg leader 1n student government was represented on the Control Board Several of them too deserve ment1on as partlcularly efHc1ent and br1ll1ant executlves Among the people who deserve speclal notlce let us not forget Helene Whetstone who mlght be seen at any txme wxth her penc1l and a supply of shorthand notes Desplte her multltudmous dutles she mamtamed the hlghest scholastlc standmg of all the officers But It seems that no one ever recogmres the pluck It takes to tackle the annuals Blanche Crawford deserves much cred1t for tracklng down the lmportant Castlemont news ltems ln Eastbay newspapers and submlttmg an extenslve annual report BCSSIC Obradovxch handled assemblles w1th the dxgnlty becommg a pon txff At all tlmes she commanded the genume respect of fifteen hundred stu dents 1n the aud1tor1um Everyone too w1ll remember the umque programs whlch she arranged Then there were Elame N1cola1sen and Vlggo Sandell expert officers mn every sense of the word Although th1s semester has ended what IS for us the greatest smgle term ln Castlemont hlstory there IS an ever xncreasxng Held of opportunlty for those who possess ambxtlon eFhc1ency and foresxght 7 7 7 3 . . , . . . . 3 - . .. , ' ' 3 .... 7 V , ' ' ' L6 19 Y Y ' 56 Y!
